microman Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 these techniques have helped me catch huge amounts of pan fish. i hope they help you to. 1. use micro sized white curly tail grubs with red jig heads 2. the roadrunner 3. trout dry files over there spawning bed 4. wet flies 5. maggots, there gross, but they work 6. chum with blood worms 7. throw some pendants(like the ones car dealers use) in to the water(float on top and a sinker on bottom) this attracts fish 8. use tiny swim baits 9. trolling tiny spoons 10. put a small ball of bread in a piece of pantyhose, then hook it on the hook Quote
D4u2s0t Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I didn't know there was any secrets to catching panfish, they're hands down the easiest to catch. That's why you take little kids fishing for them. If they're around, they can be caught pretty much every cast. Quote

Super User Lund Explorer Posted January 22, 2010 Super User Posted January 22, 2010 If you own water front property, click on the link to Pond Boss to see about getting yourself a dock mounted fish feeder. If you don't own water front, cruise the shorelines looking for somebody that has one. Purina makes a great fish chow for bluegills. Quote
trevor Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I agree if you are trying to catch tiny gills. But try targeting large (10" plus) gills only, and it is quite a challenge! Luke at Gouldsboro Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 I've never used anything besides night-crawlers. I didn't think about using anything else Quote

davehu Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 #12 1/32 oz. beetle spin. This one does catch big panfish and crappie as well. i fish a lake that has some gig gills. well the little gills took over. put one of those little beatle spins on last year and started to catch the big gills again. with wax worm i was just catching the small ones. also caught a 4lb bass on the beatle spin with 4lb test line. ;D Quote
IwillChooseFreeWill Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 There is a few specific local ponds where I use small pieces of cut up hot dog, the cheaper the better... but that only works at a few specific ponds, the rest always bite on worms and chicken liver. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 7, 2010 Super User Posted February 7, 2010 Worms, crickets and baby craws cover it all. 8-) Quote

RiverFisher13 Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Was night fishing last year and my friend pulled in a 12 3/4" blue gill night fishing for cat with chicken liver on bottom with a 2/o hook. So i would say chicken liver should be on the list for big gill. Quote

No need to be name calling yourself, it's just that respect is mutual. You'll get it when you give it; that's how life works. Just continue having fun but think of what you are saying and doing. So i would say chicken liver should be on the list for big gill. yep many times if nothing else works during the fall and winter here in north FL, they go after chicken skin or liver almost exclusively and won't touch anything else. I have caught bream of all types (bluegill, shellcracker, warmouth) on that... some of the larger ones have been in the 12-14" range. Quote
