Absolutely. I love fishing ultralite (or at least light) tackle. You get so many more bites. Bluegills, crappie, bass, other sunfish, etc. all will attack ultralite baits. For me, that means more fun. And believe it or not, I've never had more fun than when I was casting mini crankbaits into a school of swarming blue gills. Some of those babies were bulls! And on a 5' 6" light action rod, the fight was a lot of fun. Quote
Patrick Ferguson Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 what kind of jerk bait was it? rapala Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted January 29, 2010 Super User Posted January 29, 2010 Wow, that crappy had a big appetite. Quote
Patrick Ferguson Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 ya i was guessing it was nesting time for them because 2 days later i caught another on a diff rapala crankbait. not as big as the first but still decent size Quote
SlateTundra Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 When I'm not chasing bass...I'm chasing these guys. I love crappie fishing. They travel in schools, so when you get one...there's plenty more around for the taking. Quote
bweave09 Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Wow, that crappy had a big appetite. Crappie are super aggressive in my personal experience. One day while bass fishing I caught one a Bomber Model B (that thing is 2 1/2" long and FAT) and one on a 1/2 oz spinnerbait. They were going crazy that day I guess. Quote
Twistertail Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Mmmmm... Makes me sad i wont go fishing here in indy for what feels like 6 months. Nice work on that crappie the only thing i can say is who brought the cooking stuff we got our selves a sandwich! Quote
Patrick Ferguson Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 ya i almost took it home then i realized i was fishing in lake maitland. there is so much runoff of chemicals i wouldnt eat anything out of there. Quote
Smiths.R Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I could'nt help but post the picture of the only crappie I've ever caught. I did'nt even know what it was when I got it. I thought it was just a GIANT sunny. Quote
CAdeltaLipRipper Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Caught a bunch of those today while bass fishing lol.Caught one on a crankbait when i stopped it.I must say those things dont fight very much well atleast on bass tackle ;D Quote
Fish M4ST3R Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Crappies are plenty aggressive and are not the picky type of fish. I have only caught 1 crappie probably because of where I live (Blacksburg, VA). Surprisonly there are very little bodies of water that hold any crappie at all for a good distance. Quote
