Not surprised you never seen one since they live 750 FEET DOWN! And not to mention in holes!

Right you are.

I came very close to going on a tilefish trip in Jersey.

In New Jersey though, the Hudson Canyon is nearly 100 miles offshore,

so it entailed 3 days and 2 nights offshore, and was prohibitively expensive.

Caught many a tile fish off miami beach in 400-700 ft. Never ate one, they smelled IMHO.
