Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 8, 2009 Super User Posted November 8, 2009 Maybe the Captain had too much rum. Quote
Shane Procell Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 I apologize fellas, I had some technical difficulties, but it wasn't the Rum...LOL I fished in the central south part of the everglades today. Been fishing same location for past 11 years. Today I get there and get blown up by Peacock bass. Yea they are all over south Florida but this is the first season they have made it into this neck of glades. For an hour and a half I landed 25-30 peacocks and 8 largemouth. Those peacocks were blowing my topwater bait out of the water a foot sometimes and knocking it around like a soccer ball. All were caught on a Yozuri suspending, rapala husky jerk and a skitter walk. It was great. They were all the size as the one in photo. Can't wait to see what these fish will look like in 4-5 years. These gators were all around me the whole time I was fishing. Quote
bass or bass ? Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Very cool, both peacocks and gators. I miss south Florida!! Quote
seyone Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Maybe one day I will get down there to do some peacock fishing. It looks like a lot of fun and those are some beautiful fish. Quote
GLADES Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 No story to go with the pics? Peacocks are a blast, except on tourny days. Our club has decided to include peacock bass during our tourneys. We use the 13" rule for both species. Weigh in's are always interesting to see what the other guys have caught. Quote
JWallin Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I use to have one in my fish tank. They fall under the cichlid family. They grow and get big quick. Quote
md grogan Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Caught a few peacock bass on lipless cranks in a few of the small residental irrigation canals in coral springs today. Stuck here with family for the holidays. Very inconsistent bite though. Anyone have any suggestions on good lures. These peacocks are new to me. Quote

Try Torpedos on the topwater and Original Floating Minnow Rapalas #9 and #11s-perch, silver or gold. Also, try Rapala X-Raps. Key element in peacock fishing is to keep the lure moving-if you stop moving it they will lose interest. Move it agressively as you can and then kick it up a notch. Most people new to peacocks are amazed how agressive you have to move the lure Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted December 23, 2009 Super User Posted December 23, 2009 I fished the Glades back in the late 50s and in the 60s when I lived in Miami - I wish the peacocks where there back then ! Quote
