Depends on the size of the worm or what ever bait your using.

As an example for texas rigging a 5 inch worm a popular size hook is a 4/0 EWG off set hook. At least that's what I use and I have great results.

For most soft plastics a 3/0 or 4/0 EWG worm hook (I like Gamakatsus) will do the trick.  Buy a couple packs each for each size and you should be good to go.

I don't wacky rig so I can't help you there.

When I fish 4 and 5 inch trick sticks WACKY rig I will tend to have the best hook up rate with a 1/0 or 2/0 EWG worm hook.

To confuse things further, different companies sizes are different.  for example, a 2/0 Owner is different than a 2/0 Gamakatsu of the same/similar shape.

I know that doesn't help you but the best thing is to go buy a pack or two in a couple sizes and by the time you need more, you'll know which you prefer.

I use Owners in the 5102 style.  I use 2/0 and 3/0 for most of my t-rigs...

the above statement cannot be overlooked.  but that being said, I have settled on a small selection of hooks that pretty much covers all my needs.  The main one is the 5101 style owner worm hook.  Size is 4/0.  Note that this is NOT EWG.  It is my main hook.  I use it on senko's swim senko's, culprit worms, trick worms etc.

then I use the owner 4/0 riggin hook for fat ika's, horny toads, and other fat bodied plastics where the worm hook is too small.  Last but not least is the  #4 owner mutu light circle hook that I use for finesse worms, flukes and other light plastics thrown on spinning tackle.  I never believed these would work, untill I saw a florida fishing show where a guide was catching redfish by the dozens with them.  They are especially good for me because my spinning outfit is a light BSR 852.  Not the best for "setting" the hook.  but with circle hooks there is no setting the hook.  You just reel.  Yup.  Just start reeling.   Once I feel the rod load up, I sorta make a half turn and kinda "lean" a little to get the deepest possible penetration without pulling the hook out.  It works really well for me.

So those three hooks with rare exceptions cover all the bases for me.

i use the same hook for EVERYTHING. 4/0 gamakatsu g-lock ewg.

i don't really see a need to use different hooks for different styles (wacky, t-rig, etc). i find its just easier to use one hook.

I use Owners almost exclusively when I can, they stay sharp forever. That being said for offset worm hooks I would try to have at least a package of each, #1 through 3/0 for worms, maybe bigger if I was using a worm over 7" long, and then experiment. I've had bass start breaking the worms off just behind the hook and when this happens I drop down to a 1/0 or if I'm using and extra skinny worm a #1, then I usually start sticking them. I think sometimes they just open their mouth wide enough to suck in a worm and about 3/4 of the time the hook will hit thier lip and when you set the hook it will tear in two. So I think it depends on the bass's mood and how they are hitting sometimes tells you what hook to use. I just try everything until I find the one that seems to work best. And Owners are awesome, I've thrown some away because I got tired of lookin at em, I had used them so long. They just don't get dull very often!  And I've caught some big bass on a #1 hook. Don't recommend it for hogs but it can work. I don't like the round bend hook either, it seems easier to straighten out easier IMO. lp

sure do and it works GREAT!!!

the bass inhale the whole bait so i really dont see why people use smaller hooks.
