Lynx Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 7/18/2009 Went down the the Ocean today. San Francisco, California. Did some fishing. These are my results: (First 2 fish I landed of both species): Tackle Used: 8' Shakespeare Ugly Stick, Abu Garcia Salt-water Baitcaster Reel (mid-size), 80Lbs Spider Braid (12Lb diameter), Line Slider w/ 6OZ Pyramid Weight, 5/0 Striper Hook (barbless). Bait Used: Frozen Anchovies tied w/ Spider Thread. 1. Sting Ray (15LBS) 2. Leopard Shark (42 3/8"s @ 20-22LBS est.) (I caught both of these within about 25 minutes of each-other. A great Feeling after both.) I RELEASED BOTH FISH TO SEE ANOTHER DAY. Quote
moby bass Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 But I'd be a little nervous about getting the hooks out of both of those critters. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 19, 2009 Super User Posted July 19, 2009 Shoulda made scallops out of the ray and filleted the shark. Quote
Lynx Posted July 19, 2009 Author Posted July 19, 2009 But I'd be a little nervous about getting the hooks out of both of those critters. I took the kooks out very carefully. Used a pair of fishing needle nose piliers, & a hook removal tool. Quote
Quitlimpin Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Too cool! Gotta be fun having no clue what's on the other end of the line Quote
Lynx Posted July 20, 2009 Author Posted July 20, 2009 I must admit the excitement was over taking me. They both gave me a fight I wasn't used to. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 20, 2009 Super User Posted July 20, 2009 Rays and sharks, both in the same family, love hugging the bottom and pull real strong, I think rays more so, we catch them down here in Fla quite a bit. Spinner sharks on the other hand are jumpers and a ball to catch, in the backwater sightcasting we use plastic jerkbaits for them. Quote
