32251 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I had hooked this one a few weeks ago and lost him. Last night I was fishing the same spot same time of the evening and same bait and hooked him again. I got my brother on the walkie-talkie and had him come down to the dock I was fishing from and do all the reeling and fighting and I handled the net. My brother has blood cancer and is very sick. As you can see by the pic, he has lost all his teeth and a lot of weight. He is doing as well as he can and I am proud of him. I visit him every other week over in Alabama and if he is feeling decent I get him out fishing. He lives on a beautiful 60 acre lake. Nice cat. Released him. Quote

32251 Posted May 21, 2009 Author Posted May 21, 2009 The cats in the lake come in close at night and feed on the zillions of small bream. I catch the bream on a light tackle set up and hook them with large circle hooks on my cat rods. Toss them out and set the drag to the point where they can pull line and just wait till I hear line spooling off the reel, or I will go back up to the house and we will watch TV and I will check the rods ever hour or so. The drag is set so the fish will have to pull pretty good. Usually they will spool off about 1/3 of the line and then just lay on the bottom and doze! 8-) It is a 325 mile round trip, but I tell you it has been so worth every trip. We are making up for a lot of lost time over the years as this will be the only chance we have. Funny how just everyday junk will get in the way of staying close to your family sometimes, but I swore that when I found out he was sick, that I would not just let him slip away without spending as much time as I can with him. I will miss him when he is gone, but I sure will feel a heck of a lot better knowing how much he appreciated me spending some time with him. We caught a lot of fish when we were kids...and we're catching them now! Quote
