Lauren Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 At my school's pound there are supposedly channel catfish. I never went cat fishing before and do not know what type of bait to use. Any ideas? Thanks and have a great time out fishing. Quote
tyrius. Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 As a kid we used chicken liver and a treble hook. Cast it out and wait for a cat to take it. Quote
bigtimfish Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 You can pretty much catch a catfish on anything that smells. Liver, chunks of Ivory soap, stinky dough baits, cut bait. Get a weight and treble hook and cast. Quote
Paul Benner Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Take 4" of panty hose, and tie an overhand knot in one end. Then stuff it full of liver and tie the other end closed. Slide your hook through the knot and into the meat bag. Drop it onthe bottom and wait. I'd suggest fishing atleast 2 lines if it's legal there. Panty hose keeps the 'gills and small ones from pecking it to death, and the big ones will just grab it. Best, Paul Quote
Captain Rhino Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Try a chunk of hot dog as bait. Simple, clean, and easy... I usually use a 1/0 hook, split shot sinker, and a bobber (about 3 feet from the bait. Have fun! Quote
mrlitetackle Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 as for bait..... here is a LONG list of many peoples preferences!!!! http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1239649912 ive been sticking with the chicken livers lately... i put an egg style weight above a swivel and tie off.... then on the bottom ring of the swivel i tie about 3 to 4 ft of line with a treble hook. Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted August 12, 2009 Super User Posted August 12, 2009 Chicken liver....I dont use a treble hook though....just a 1/0 bait holder, let them swallow it good and swing for the fences Quote
bass or bass ? Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Use raw (uncooked) shrimp. Let it age it the sun a few hours. This will stay on the hook, channel cats love it. Use a circle hook, 1/0 to 3/0 size. The fish will hook themselves as they swim away, no need to set hook, and the hook will be in the corner of the mouth where it will be easy to remove. Happy fishing. Quote

SimonSays Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I go and catching some bluegill, then put a circle hook through their tails, toss them out on a 8/0 circle hook, weightless, and wait. Make sure it's legal in your state first! Quote
