central_fl_fishin Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 small beetle spins or breadballs on a bream hook. Quote
scaledriver Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 haha it's sweet there seem to be so many ways to catch these lil guys. Also shows how great this site is because of all the responses to this thread I was unsure how much a response I would get. This is defintly a great site and comunity Quote
NewAngler Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 i've used live salamander before and slayed the green sunfish for about 3 hours one day. never caught the same one twice. 5/0 hook through the mouth and feed it all the way through. good luck. IMO these have worked better than crickets, worms, and any artificial i have ever used. Quote
Slip Gun Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 We took 3 little girls out fishing while we were at the lake and rigged them up with worms on small hooks. I had a rooster tail that was too big for them but I shot it out and they would follow it back to the boat and then head for the worm. It was pretty effective and we got to get 3 little kids out fishing for the first time . Quote
Quitlimpin Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Tail end of my senko . Tick tick tick tick Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted August 16, 2009 Super User Posted August 16, 2009 Tail end of my senko . Tick tick tick tick I don't know if you were joking or not, but 1 1/2" to 2" tail sections of any Senko style bait rigged onto a 1/16 oz. jighead are deadly. Under a bobber, straight retrieve, yo yo retrieve, whatever. It works. Don't throw out your torn up stickbaits. Quote
CmacFL Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 1 or 2 inch grubs on the 1/16 oz jighead is deadly!! No doubt he's right, for specks too. I like light green jighead with a lightgreen and yellow grub. Going to try a rooster tail and spiders now though, this forum has great information. Quote
birdy Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 1/16 oz jig with mini tube and grubs, look at this beast, they hit anything in the pond in my back yard. Quote
mrlitetackle Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 man, now that thing is lookin' mighty tiny!!!!!! just use him as the bait ;D Quote
birdy Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I thought he/she was kinda cute. Didn't want top hurt it. Had a lot of heart to hit something almost as big as itself. Quote
scaledriver Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 haha them lil guys are fearless Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted August 24, 2009 Super User Posted August 24, 2009 I've had them little suckers Try to eat my 10" ragetail anaconda a few times..lol Minnows never fail.. Quote
BigOleBob Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Nothing works better than a hook and an earthworm! Quote
skeetermike Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Ok, bluegills u want eh. Try live crickets. Although, this yr. down here in OK we used a small bettle spin and tore them up! I say them, I meant the bream, but there were some bluegills mixed in there, sunfish, and goggle eyed perch. All if large enough are very tasty when fried in extra hot greese. We used many colors but the solid yellow seemed to work best along with the blk/chart and yellow/white tail. All 1"tubes on around a 1/8th to 1/16th oz head. It wasn't the problem of finding them, rather finding the bigger ones worth the time and trouble to clean. 4lb line on a 6' spinning pole was a fight at times though! Good luck. Quote
broncoboxer Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I've had luck catching bluegill with Rapala Countdown minnows (the smallest versions--CD1, I believe) and Strike King Bitsy Minnows. The most fun I've ever had fishing was when I hooked into a mess of bluegill with the above lures. I caught 7 in approximately 15 minutes. They bent my 5'6" spincasting rod in half. Some of those suckers were true bull gills, weighing more than a pound. Little did I know (since I was, and still am, a newb) those were big for blue gill. Heck, I didn't even know what they were! I was like, "Is this a bass?" Quote
scaledriver Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 Bass fishing was so slow this weekend. So I tryed the foam spiders with the clear float that some of the guys recomended. Wow did it work great I caught 10 or so in around an hour. Was great fun after a 4 hour grind of tryin to figure out where all the bass went : haha funniest part was listening to the guys a lil ways over form me complaining about live bait prices etc. I was catch as many as they was and my bait never came off the hook ;D Quote

MattinOK Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Berkley gulp earthworms. The kind that come in a little jar. These things are awesome! I can usually catch 40-50 bluegill an hour, and I always have em' with me (which cannot be said for real earthworms.) Quote
