Brian4618 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Im heading up to the mountains soon and there are some streams running thru near where im staying. Gonna try some trout fishin up there and wondering if anyone had any favorite baits or any tips? Ill be using a spinning reel, not fly reel. Quote
flippincrazy Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Get some small rooster tails and panther martin inline spinners, these should catch some fish. Also may want to try some gulp alive leeches, they can be deadly. If you have live bait available try some minnows also. Good luck. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted March 17, 2009 Super User Posted March 17, 2009 panther martins, blue fox vibrax, small original rapala F05, kastmaster in slow deep pools, crappie jigs Quote
Branuss04 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 1/16 and 1/8 kastmasters in Trout color.... thats all I ever use Quote
done Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I wade NC mountain streams with live crickets, they hit those things all day long. Absolutely my favorite type of fishing around. They hit those crickets hard. Quote
Brian4618 Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Thanks guys, im gonna head to Bass Pro and pick up a few of the things yall mentioned, and ill definitely try some crickets, they are fairly cheap ;D . I have some lures called Super Duper's in my box i was wondering if anyone has ever used them. Ill post a picture of them too Quote
Branuss04 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I used those when I was little, I used to do well with them trolling. Don't know how they perform casting though. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I'm not too sure about the Super Dupers, they seem a little too large for stream Trout fishing. Like someone already said, you can catch them all day long on Rooster Tails. Quote

Like someone already said, you can catch them all day long on Rooster Tails. What size of rooster tail works best? In small streams I will use either 1/8 or 1/16. (Mostly 1/8). For a little larger rivers I will use 1/2. Quote
VA-Cal Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Artificials: wet fly's, "Joe's Flies" w/Spinners, in-line spinners, bettle-spins, small spoons, grubs, and tiny tubes Live bait: small red worms (not night crawlers), wax worms, crickets, live hellgramites Tight lines, Cal Quote
Boots Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 use meals worms with light split shot sinkers. (meal worms can fall off easy to make sure you have plenty of them and try to get the fatter ones, but they work outstanding) Quote
Luke at Gouldsboro Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 I caught my limit (5 fish a day) 4 times this year using this rig. First use 4 or 6 lb line. i would tie on a small hook, and put one meal worm on the hook. Also I would put a small bobber about 12-16 inches up from the hook. The best way to to fish this setup is to setup downstream of where you want to fish. Cast upstream , let the creek take your line downstream, and make sure you reel the slack as it gets closer. Quote
CSB Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Z-Rays, Rooster Tails, Panther Martins, salmon eggs and meal worms have all worked for me. Quote
Bainza Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 berkley 3" power worm in bubblegum. We have been hamerin on the trout this year with them Quote
1inStripes Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 The smaller Super Dupers will work. A lot of people trout fish with them here in SWVA. I have a few, but their not my favorite lure. I also like using a rainbow trout Yozuri pin minnow, and panther martins. Live bait is always fine, night crawlers or meal worms. Salmon eggs are great in fast moving areas. Quote
Jake. Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Make sure you know the regulations for the stream you are fishing. You don't want to get busted by a Warden fishing live bait or an illegal artificial lure where you aren't supposed to. Quote
D4u2s0t Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 opening day this year we killed them on nightcrawlers. these are decent size for the stream we were in. got my limit of 6 in the first 6 casts. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30190681&l=e77afdeea6&id=1003390062 Quote
butch19 Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 totally agree with the nightcrawlers.the best trout bait that i found.corn works too Quote
