Matt Jungblut Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 i recently bought a 2 person bass boat i have a pond that i have been bank fishing for a few years couldnt wait to hit it up with my new boat we got there and with in a few mins had a crappie that went probally 14 inches he fell off the hook as soon as i got him in the boat and managed to make it back to the water before i could get a good hand on him then a little further down the pond i caught this 1 she went on the stringer 15 inches and a pound 1/2 i caught many little bass but that was my only crappie so after fishing around the pond 1 1/2 times and a storm coming in i let her go i catch these size crappies every time i go there just cant catch a bunch for some reason maybe its because i am catching them on 3/8 oz spinnerbaits and big cranks Quote
Matt Jungblut Posted May 11, 2009 Author Posted May 11, 2009 wow thats a big crappie i guess everybody else is jealous so they cant comment on the nice trip and cool fish Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 11, 2009 Super User Posted May 11, 2009 Nice slab..and congratz on the new boat. Quote
GHow Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Love a big slab. I never get the "queens" in numbers. They hammer large bass flies and put up a great fight. Quote
farmpond1 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I've only caught a few but the really big crappie are uber cool (to borrow from modern slang and, previous to that, Nietzsche)!!! I'm probably anthopomorphizing but the big ones seem to have an attitude. As in: "How dare you catch me!" I love to catch bass but when I catch a crappie, I'm thrilled too. I think they are beautiful fish. The big ones really fight, too! That's a nice slab you have there! Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted May 20, 2009 Super User Posted May 20, 2009 I love to catch bass but when I catch a crappie, I'm thrilled too. I think they are beautiful fish. The big ones really fight, too! Yeah man, well put. A 14"- 15" slab on 4# test is a blast. Quote
VA-Cal Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Don't know about Iowa, but here in Virginia, any Crappie of 15" or more is a "Citation" Fish . . . if you're into that sort of thing! Really NICE Crappie!! Quote
LloydTheFisher Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Nice Crappie. I have never caught one that big. I have caught several but they were 6-8". Nice Catch. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted June 17, 2009 Super User Posted June 17, 2009 try to downsize your crankbaits and maybe try some 1-2'' grubs on a jig head . i usually kill them on a mr. twister style grub and a blakemore roadrunner . i'm going to a good lake this weekend (sat, sun, and monday ) going to camp there and fish sun-up to sundown. should limit out each day (25 crappies per day ) i can't wait Quote
