Decided to go out on Friday the 13th to do some carp fishing with corn. Friday the 13th is supposed to be a day for bad luck but it turned out to be the exact opposite for me. Got this one that was around 11 LBS on corn. I did not weigh the fish but my friend caught and released this same fish and when he caught it he weighed the fish at just over 11 LBS.

This fish put up a pretty nice fight. The pictures also turned out very well. I also caught a few more small carp on the same day!

Yesterday I went out again to try for some carp. I got two dinks in the first 15 minutes fishing where some kids were feeding ducks. Then went an hour without a bite. After about an hour Bladeslinger showed up and we moved to a different spot that often produces. We chummed the area and he caught two dinks of his own includeing the smartest carp that ever caught that he named "Einstein"

I then got a very strong run on the one rod I had no action on all day. I set the hook and hooked into the fish of the day. This fish was also the 2nd koi I had caught in 3 days. This is the 2nd time I have caught this exact same fish.

Pound for pound this fish put up one of the best fights I have ever had with a carp. He was only around 6-7 LBS but I thought I had a 10+ pounder on the way it was takeing out drag. Still a very nice catch.

After this I proceded to miss 3 carp in a row includeing one which I should have had for sure since the fish hooked up for a few seconds. Bladelsinger ccaught another small carp that was around 5 LBS. Bladeslinger then gave me a tip on how to rig my corn. I decided to use his method and hooked into my next bite. The result was not a carp but was infact Bladeslingers prefered species to target.

He seems to catch more of these than he does fish.

About 20 minutes later Bladeslinger went home. I was carping by myself with 3 rods out and got a nice run. As I was fighting the small but strong fish in one of my other rods started going off. It was a double hook up. I got the first carp landed freed him from my net and then set the hook into the other carp which was by now half way accross the lake. This carp was also small and was much easyer to land. I landed the 2nd fish and removed the hooks from both of them. Then I got a picture with my two fish. This was the first time this has happened to me fishing by myself where I have been able to land BOTH fish.

2.40. Chumming.

Chumming is permitted only in:

(a) The Colorado River District, but only the approved bait fishes for this District may be used as chum (see Section 4.15) except in the Salton Sea where corn may also be used.

Why do I need a California fishing license if this is a private take?

By law the California State Dept. of Fish and Game regulates fishing on all bodies of water in the state, public and private. You must follow all state regulations or you may be subject to fines, even though our lake is private.

That is absolutely ridiculous.  If I dig a hole, fill it with water, and buy fish to put in it....I'm doing with them as I please.  I'd buy a fishing license when the state started stocking fry in my pond.

I have tossed extra corn out to attract carp in this place often, Security have seen me do it many times and never once told me I was not allowed to do this. One gard who actually wants to learn how to fish had me explain the process of carp fishing to him. I explained "chumming" to attract the fish and he said nothing was wrong with doing that.

Also that lake is a private cummunity lake with private security. The rules are posted on signs all around the lake saying what you can and cant do. The rules regarding fishing say.

1 You can only fish Saturday, Sunday, Wensday, and Hollidays.

2 All Fish Must be released

3 You must have an ID with you.

4 No Swimming or Wadeing in the lake.

Thats it... keep in mind it is a private lake and those are the rules that the security of the lake enforces. Private Security patrol the lake every day and they never in the 10 years I fished there said anything about not "chumming" corn.

I also already know you cant do it in State owned lakes but thats not an issue since I mostly do bass fishing in those places anyway :)

The security guards are not game wardens.

Yeah exactly my point. This lake does not have game wardens. As I said it is a community lake that has its own set of rules which I already posted. This lake also hires its own security to enforce the rules. I do not do anything that they say I am not allowed to do. They have never told me I am not allowed to throw out corn to attract carp and they have seen me do it several times. I wouldent do this in a state owned lake and if they tell me not to do it I would stop. The rules of this place dont say anything about tossing out corn and security have never said anything to me about it. Dont worry I wont get in trouble for doing it I know for a fact and I wouldent do it if they said I was not allowed to. I also didnt mean to start a debate on this just wanted to post my catches.

That 2nd Koi is one of the weirdest looking fish i have EVER seen.  Congrats on the catches and as long as your releasing em, i dont see the problem with making em a little fatter with the corn lol.

Where's the bass at?

Where's the bass at?

Give me 1 month or so. Then I will be bass fishing again. Bass fishing in the winter is very slow and you are very limited with what you can do. So I usually target catfish and carp in the winter time since its easyer to catch big cats and carp in the winter than bass. I cant wait til the bass start spawning again... always one of my favorite times of the year :)

They were not origionally stocked into the lake. The normal common carp were never placed in there either. There was supposably 1 guy who released 8 koi in there origionally. As for the common carp there must have been someone else who put those in there. Its perfectly ok to catch koi or any species out of there as long as you release them.
