Ok, I have never been able to catch many carp until I discovered this one certain spot I'll call the honey hole. Now in this honey hole I am able to catch a good 10 carp on a good day, sometimes you get a hit every 10mins which imo is great for carp, sometimes you get a hit back to back to back. Good size carp too, some 10-20lbers in there.

Me and the regular guys who fish it always catch and release the carp, so when we come again we can have a great day like always. Although, a bunch of guys been coming every other day to the spot with 3-4 rods each, fishing all day and keeping every single carp they catch. These guys have no understanding of the word "sportsmanship" they literally keep every single carp they catch. Sometimes taking 7-10 a day. Now, with them coming every other day I can easily picture the lake going to hell in no time flat.

Since I don't know of any regulations on carp, I don't see theres much me and the guys can do other then sit back and watch them slowly destroy the carp population in the lake. How do you guys suggest on handling this, what can I do to save this great carp fishing lake from being turned into a spot where all's left is stories of the good ol days... Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

If your goal is to get shot or arrested, try following Secretlakes advice.

I definitely know the feeling of getting worked up, but you never know if one guy has a gun or not.

Best bet, see if there are any regulations on carp, if not, reason with them. If they don't listen there might not be anything you can do =/

maybe you could make up some signs , by me there is a retention pond that some of the old timers that fish there said it used to have big fish in it but now youre luckly to catch anthing these old timers told me alot of korean people startedfishing there and were always seen keeping fish of all sizes  me being a newbie fishing there i made up some signs   that look professional that say catch and release lake  and i posted them around the lake on 1x2 wood stakes these people thought the village or police put up the signs and havent been back since im hoping this retention lake will rebuild with fish its so close to my house.

Someone thought it was a good idea to personally stock the local pond where I live. They did it by throwing in a bag of feeder goldfish sold in most petstores. You can buy them 10 for a $1 for those that like to feed there Oscars live fish.

Who knows what disease they can infect a lake with. Luckily the pond they are in still has sunfish and you can catch those carp, they are about 8 inches now.

Unfortunately, that's correct. Talking about sportsmanship, catch-and-release or selective harvest to people who keep everything is absolutely useless.

I've also seen a few ponds ruined for bass fishing, even when people are keeping stuff legally. New York has it right when they say:

"Indiscriminate removal, even within legal seasons and creel limits, may result in less desirable fisheries in sensitive waters."

Never seen this but I love it.

Carp are an invasive species that really hurt native fish populations. I'd tell them thanks. Shooting them with a bow is popular around here. Wish we could rid the waters I fish of them.

:D ;D

The introduction of carp to our native waters is widely regarded as one of the worst stocking descisions ever made.

I'd tell them thanks too. Then I'd send 'em to everywhere else I knew carp swam.

Hey, could be worse. They could be keeping every bass they caught instead.  ;)

Hey secretlakes,

How in the world could anyone have known you were joking? A smiley or a j/k would have gone a long way.

I'm sorry you got your feelings hurt, but you have to take some personal responsibility for what happened to your post.

Secretlakes - I am the owner of this site, and have been for over 12 years.  You are new here, so I'll cut you a little slack.  Clearly you are not familiar with our culture here.  Reading the FAQ's will go a very long way in helping you understand what we're about.  But in a nutshell:

I expect everyone to treat each other with respect.  No excuses.

As RW said, if you have an issue with that, then this isn't the place for you.  Some people enjoy sites where flame wars, insults, arguments, and personal attacks abound.  If that person is you, then there's plenty of other sites out there that offer that environment.

This is a heavily moderated site, so that type of behavior is not allowed.  But if you behave, you won't even notice us.  :)

the original comment was not directed towards anyone person, it was just a comment referring to a situation that one member was having a problem with. the only reason that i felt the need to say something was that my comment was removed for no reason. it contained no profanity, didn't insult anyone, and was ten times more tame than anything you could put on your television. if this is a place for us to post our thoughts and coments, our "two cents", then why if something falls within your parameters would you delete it? i apologize for hurting anyones feelings. :'( and i am not an internet tough guy or a soprano. don't you know the fat mobsters don't come down here?  just so everyone knows, it's the NOrth jOIsey people that are obnoxious. don't here in the south were BASS fisherman.

You threatened somebody with violence.

THAT is against our policies here, and is inappropriate.  I won't tolerate threats.

I'm really surprised you feel you did nothing wrong.  That's alarming.  I don't buy into the victim role, so don't play one here.

You'll gain much more respect around here by owning up to your actions.

I also will not debate forum policies.  This is not a democracy.

I''ve made my point. and you've had your say.  So let's move on.

Ok Wisturkeyhunter and SuskyDude, lets pretend they were taking bass. This way you can feel as if your in my shoes. I understand carp are an invasive species, but this lake is packed with them and thats about all thats in there. They are fairly easy to catch in this lake and you can have alot of fun hookin into some monsters in less then 10mins.

On to my point, lets pretend they were bass, and these guys were comin to the lake you fish every other day, catching their limit and leaving. Days go by and they tell their friends to come, and now theres a good 10 of em fishing the lake every other day, taking their limit in largemouth. Now that you understand how I am feeling, and are in my shoes, what would you do? ::)

you can always talk to them, but if it doesn't work then it doesn't work and i think you have to move on and find another honey hole.

some people just don't want to hear common sense and take it as an insult. i enjoy eating bass, but i would only keep a few decent eating sizes. most of the lakes here in canada sucks because there's too much traffic on them and people would literally take every single fish or up to the limit. imagine 4 friends on a boat taking away 20 bass. then come back tommorow and do the same. 40 bass. geez... you know how it goes. not to mention everyone else on the lake.

so talk to them, try to make them understand, but like i said, don't over extend or they will definitely take it as an insult because if they if cared, they would not do it in the first place. if they didn't know, then they will accept it with ease.

Unless there are regulations about not catching certain breeds of carp like  grass carp , you have no right to say anything to them. I know that sucks but they have rights also.

If they're breaking the law then I'd call DNR on them.  If they're not breaking the law (limits or creel size or anything else) then  you'll have to get the law changed or just deal with it.  If no laws are being broken then your only avenue seems to be having a conversation with them.

Carp grow REAAALY fast.  Once those people fish out all the larger carp, they will leave.  Then wait about a month or two and you will have a whole new group of larger carp to catch.  They grow and spawn FAST.  Thats why they are so invasive in some bodies of water.

If its not illegal, I would wait these guys out. They will leave once all the carp are gone.  Then the carp will come back and hope that they wont lol

At the risk of sounding like a brown noser and also locking this thread, I am so grateful for moderators who actually moderate.  When I first learned the internet, I got onto chat rooms thinking I could find interesting discussions about movies, current events, etc.  Instead, I found a bunch of angry/nasty people carelessly/callously throwing nasty words about.   I'm all for freedom of speech but IMHO our "civil liberties" have gone too far at trampling the dignity and respect of others.  So thank you Glenn, Roadwarrior and the rest for keeping this place as clean and pleasant as it is.
