Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 20, 2009 Super User Posted January 20, 2009 I'm in Delray Beach, Florida and I target snook & tarpon most of the year, hope the bite starts in a month or so. I have some really nice spots and catch some good fish, but like most I'm always looking for new places to explore and new techniques........anyone care to colaborate? Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted January 20, 2009 Super User Posted January 20, 2009 I go on a regular basis. We can go but I have to blind fold on the way if we go to my spots. Quote
GLADES Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I used to fish for snook and tarpon alot when I owned a open fisherman a few years back. Mainly in the Hillsboro inlet in Pompano Beach, Port Everglades inlet, and around the New River in Ft Lauderdale. I used to use crankbaits and/or live shrimp. If you guys dont mind a third wheel, I would be interested in going sometime. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 20, 2009 Author Super User Posted January 20, 2009 I would be interested in going sometime. Shoot me an email, I'm waiting for water to warm up a bit. You may want to try the El Rio canal in Boca on high tide. Snook should be hitting there soon. Decent access spot just south of Glades behind an apt complex(next to Boca Hospital), just drive in and park Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted January 21, 2009 Super User Posted January 21, 2009 I go on a regular basis. We can go but I have to blind fold on the way if we go to my spots. Don't worry, I don't kiss and tell I only have a couple spots that I fish. I've been fishing them for 34 yrs now. (wow , that's long. :'( ) I occasionally fish the Jupiter inlet but most of my fishing is done around the West Palm Beach area. I like the Okeechobee Blvd bridge and all surrounding docks that are lit. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 21, 2009 Author Super User Posted January 21, 2009 As soon as the water warms up and the bait returns I'm gonna run up to Sebastian, never been and I hear it's just absolutley the best. I would probably pick casting from the beach as my favorite way of fishing, except going with a guide sight casting in the backwater in the keys, which I can't do on regular basis. I'm sure by now you have gathered I fish light tackle, artficals only. I don't do that much bass fishing except a little bit this time of year and in my area the bass bite stinks. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted January 22, 2009 Super User Posted January 22, 2009 I would venture to say that Jupiter inlet is probably the hottest Snook spot on the eastern coast, including Sebastian. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 22, 2009 Author Super User Posted January 22, 2009 I keep putting off going up to Jupiter, it isn't that far. I watched Mark Sosin on TV yesterday and he seems to go to Jupiter inlet area often. This is the 3 rd or 4 th show I've seen where he is fishing there. It's nice to see because he is fishing in our backyard and in an area very accessable to us. He wasn't fishing more than 50 yards off the beach. Quote
plural_of_fant Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 hey folks, Im from up north, never been to florida. But its one of my goals to get down and catch some snook. Where would be a good place for a tourist to come and stay and get out with a guide or charter for snook and tarpon, red fish would be cool too.. Snook is just my ultimate goal... my last name is Snook.. which is part of why i want to catch one.. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 1, 2009 Super User Posted February 1, 2009 You can stay anywhere in Palm Beach County, Florida. Look me up and I will take you Snook fishing. Gas for the boat will run ya 10 bucks, live shrimp about 6 bucks and 5 bucks for the car wash to clean the boat afterwards. Im not a guide but I will gaurantee you some Snook or bait and boat wash are free. Season opens again in March if you want to keep any, otherwise you can catch them year round. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 2, 2009 Author Super User Posted February 2, 2009 Time of year you plan on coming is an important factor. The water is bit cool for them now so the action hasn't heated up yet. I know for a fact they are catching them off bridges now in Stuart and further north. Bassn has given you a nice deal and I'm sure you will catch fish. I have personally fished with guides before, others have their favorite places mine is Islamorada in the backcountry in the keys. I have never caught redfish there, but have caught snook, tarpon, bonefish, trout, shark and permit if you get lucky. Guide will supply the rods and reels and tackle, around $350. Bud N Mary's is a good place to start looking for a guide. Quote
bocabasser Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I would venture to say that Jupiter inlet is probably the hottest Snook spot on the eastern coast, including Sebastian. x2 i only fish the jupiter inlet when it is NOT snook season. i have a spot that i fish and i usually do very well on an outgoing tide. i usually catch between 20 and 40 snook between 5 and 10 #'s, with a good mixture of lady fish, jacks and tarpon. i live right near the el rio canal and have caught some snook and tarpon, but that place is very tidal. my favorite spot is in pompano, and like doug says---i will have to blindfold you and give you some memory loss medicine to ensure you never go back. LOL. when the tide is right, easily catch a dozen slobs that are WELL over the slot size. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted February 3, 2009 Super User Posted February 3, 2009 Born and raised in W. Palm Beach here, live in Gardens now and I would like to get back to fishing Snook like I use to a couple of years ago. I here that Snook Islands in Lake Worth are really good, as well as Juno Beach during the summer. I have some spots scattered throughout the area and would be willing to hookup and fish with a forum member. I also like fishing for Snook from the beach at Sunrise from my spots, but I have a Ranger Intracoastal that is pretty much built for chasing snook. Every June I like going down to the Keys to do some Tarpon fishing though!! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 3, 2009 Author Super User Posted February 3, 2009 I was down at the El Rio the other morning and you could walk across it. I fish snook islands alot and do well there. Jacks, snook, tarpon, redfish once in awhile. I also hit the beach quite often too, I fish everyday. I don't protect my secret spots, someone fished them 30 years before I found them. I get as much joy watching someone else catch a nice fish so i don't mind other people around me. Gulfstream beach can get really hot sometimes, probably my favorite beach in the area. Quote
