Beans Baxter Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 I got a bit of fishing in this evening with an interesting result. First I tried a little fly popper with a casting bubble. I had quite a bit of bluegill success with this rig a few days ago and I wanted to see if I could get some bass to hit it. I also knew that they had completed the fall trout stocking last week so I thought that would improve my odds. After getting shut out on the fly, I decided to go after the bass I knew were in the area and wacky-rigged a 5" senko. First cast into the same area I had been tossing the fly and I got a hit on the drop. I could tell it was a decent sized fish since it was really giving my ultralight rod and reel a good workout. As the fish neared the shore, imagine my surprise when I pulled out a 15" rainbow trout. Completely unexpected but not at all unwelcome. I ended up catching 4 bass on the same rig in the 11-14" range but that trout was the best fight of the evening. Too bad I wasn't planning on keeping anything as he would have made a good dinner. Anybody other unexpected fish stories? Quote
brgbassmaster Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Well one time i was at my home lake and i threw a rapala skitter pop into a hole in the lilly pads. to my suprise i had the biggest explosion i have ever had on topwater im thinking now im about to catch the lake record maybe the michigan state record because this thing was so big. haha to make a long story short getting all excited about to catch a huge lol bass well it ended up being a giant dogfish it was fun to catch but i would have rather caught a bass that big. BrimfieldBass Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Last week my son and I were fishing a local bass pond and did not know it was stocked with trout..Well the first cast landed me a 3.5 lb bass on a 4" senko Rootbeer/gold fleck wacky rigged with a 1/0 Kale hook..next cast i got a nice hit..when to the boat it was a 17" rainbow trout.... Then a few minutes later hooked another bass...the worm rode up the line..while retrieving the fish ..when close to the boat..I seen a Rainbow hitting the worm on the line ... Al Quote
Beans Baxter Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 what color of senko were you using? One of the laminates: dark green pumpkin/amber (color #926). Quote
bpm2000 Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Trout eat senkos ALL the time. Downsize to a 3" and dropshot it in trout-areas and you will probably outfish the powerbait dunkers a lot of the time. They also love the little panfish tubes and such type baits. They are predatory! Quote

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to try that next time I'm out. Do you wacky-rig the senko on your dropshot or just through the nose like a normal rig? Quote
