crankybaits Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 did anyone see the new rapala's? http://www.tackletour.com/reviewicast08rapala.html they look great, but it looks like they are trying to get to lucky craft prices. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 "...sounds that fish can hear and see as the lure is retrieved." how the hell do fish see sounds????? :-? rapala has really let me down here. most of those new baits just seem like gimmicks (except for the DT FAT 01's, i will probably get a few) and i cant believe the prices they have put on these. i may only have to get one DT 01. rapala, i'm very disappointed in you Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 they look great, but it looks like they are trying to get to lucky craft prices. Quality bait = premium price Quote

Why would you be disapointed in a top notch company trying to respond to new technologies that they made have available to us? Rapala harbaits are my #1 plug baits and have been for decades. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 Hey Dave, Apparently you haven't fished the X-Rap Shad, because they have already proven themselves to me, so the X-Rap Shad Shallow is not a gimmick lure. I've also said for years, I wish I could get a walk-the-dog bait that would do more than just side-to-side action, now there's the Glidin Rap. I'm only disappointed in Rapala because I can feel my wallet getting lighter as we speak. Falcon Quote
tyrius. Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Lucky Craft prices? Those rapalas are all still under $10. I was pretty satisfied with my stash of rapala's, but now I'm going to have to pick up some DT Fat 1's, Gliding Raps, X-Rap shallows, and a Clackin Rap or two. There goes my fishing budget for a while. :-/ Quote
NEBassMan Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 The Fat 01's will be finding their way into my tackle box. Also a few of the shallow X-rap shads. They look great!! Quote
Big Matty L Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Dooooooooooooooooooo they have a little red flashing light and a sooooooon going to be banned from tournament fishing? Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 haha dont get me wrong, 95% of my hardbaits are rapalas (a couple bandits thrown in) but i'm still sketchy on that clackin rap. i agree, the xrap shads look nice though as do the dt fat 01's. but i just dont think any of these baits justify a 10 dollar price tag. there used to be only two rapalas that i can think of that were 10 dollars, and those were the jumbo musky sized lures, like the super shad rap and the xrap jointed shad. Joel W Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I'm a big Rapala fan, but for shallow crankin' I see no reason to switch from my Manns -1. What I'll be real interested in is their DT-20s. I'm not a real big fan of the sure set hooks, so I'll be switching them. Quote
Stringjam Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Why wouldn't the price go up? The price of balsa wood is going up, the price of shipping is going way up, the value of the USD is going down. Most Rapala lures (I believe) are made in factories in Ireland and Estonia.....if dropping prices means shipping those productions to China and having lures made by 10-year-old factory slaves, I'll gladly pay a couple of extra bucks. At any rate....less than $10 for a premium quality bait is a DEAL. People want quality, but they don't ever want to pay for it - - or they want prices to stay the same as they were 20 years ago despite increased cost of production. If you had to buy a bait the equivalent of Rapala's balsa line of baits from a small custom company, it would likely cost over $18 a bait. Some perspective......back in the 1960's people were paying $25-$60 for blackmarket Rapalas because the demand was so high. People were paying over $40 for Fred Young's Big-O. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 I might have to give the DT20 a try. I wish they would come out with a DT30. Quote
Chad. Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 None of it look gimmicky thats nonsense i like the clacking rap and the glider Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 I might have to give the DT20 a try. I wish they would come out with a DT30. I wonder if that is possible using Balsa? Quote
crankybaits Posted August 1, 2008 Author Posted August 1, 2008 I'm not a real big fan of the sure set hooks, so I'll be switching them. that almost hurts to hear that. anyone who doesn't want their suresets are more than encouraged to send them my way. Quote
Thefishy1 Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 I'm still waiting for a good balsa wake bait. Quote
basspimple Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 clackin rap looks dynamite to me. i never did like the original rattlin rap, just wasnt noisy eough to me. now ive gotta reason to buy some more stuff! (its the monkey talkin, i swear! ) Quote

djmax22 Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 I cant ever seem to get bit with Rapala cranks. I have a ton of them. Great designs, nice patterns and they run true I just have a problem getting bit. I find myself reaching more and more for a Norman or a lucky craft. Quote

It's cheaper to put them where they belong and flush em than to ship em with the postal rates being as high as they are. Quote
