Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 13, 2008 Super User Posted August 13, 2008 think i would be successful in catching some large pickerel by using lures that imitate little pickerel? do they eat their young? also, if there is a good pickerel population in a pond, do you think that i could catch some bass on a bait that imitates a little pickerel? avid Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 If you could find a pickerel imitation I'm sure it would work. but why sweat it? Get something flashy and/or splashy and if the picks are there you will catch em. Quote
Super User Marty Posted August 13, 2008 Super User Posted August 13, 2008 Pickerel will readily hit any lure in the tackle shop, regardless of what it may or may not resemble. If I had to pick one, I'd give a slight edge to spinnerbaits. Bass will also hit anything. I've done a lot of fishing in waters that have both pickerel and bass. Regardless of what lure was being used and regardless of what part of the lake we were fishing, we would catch either species. Quote

MskSlyr Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Because of the markings I would think that would be a slick looking bait. I know that pickerel will at times attack just about anything they can but it does not hurt to try something new. I know manufacturer's tailor pike and muskie baits to imitate their own and they are all ESOX. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 DAve, maybe you can glean something from this vid. Pretty sweet looking. Not sure about a practical application, but cool nonetheless.... Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 17, 2008 Author Super User Posted August 17, 2008 yeah that video comes up a lot. that lure is rediculous though. way too big for practical use, i dont even think anything would attempt to eat it, and the bucktail trebel hook is dumb, ruins the whole bait IMO. i think he should have put fins on it. i also dont like the action too much. other than that its a well crafted lure Quote

I sure a giant muskie or pike would hit that if it was put in front of them at the right time. Big esox eat big meals. Quote
Super User Micro Posted August 24, 2008 Super User Posted August 24, 2008 David, I've told you before, and I'm saying it again. You are destined to be a lure designer/maker. You've alredy got the righ name for some killer baits... DSAAVEDRA CUSTOM BAITS Give in to your talents. Quote

I have one, but haven't thrown it yet. Quote
loomis spookwalker Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Try a #11 Husky Jerk. I guarantee it. Quote
Ken_Allen Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 I had a Pickerel blow up an X-Rap Silver/Gold the other day. Quote
