Anyone see the last episode?  They took it down to the canal system in Miami, FL.  I was kinda hoping for some better underwater footage, but overall I thought it was a really cool episode, especially because I was able to fish that area last summer.  It's a really cool fishery and the number of different exotic species is amazing.

They really didn't catch any large peacocks, just little two pounders all day.  It still looked like a blast though.

What'd you guys think of the episode?

I seen the commercial for it and was excited to watch it, but then never did. I think the fact that there are peacocks in FL is awesome and I hope that as long as they dont push out the native fish, they continue to grow so I can plan a trip to FL as opposed to the amazon basin.

The Peacock Bass in FL is a different species. The Butterfly peacock just does not get as large as it's cousins from the south. If you want big, you still need to go where "big" live. I also have fished in Miami for these little fighters and it was a blast.

Hook and Look is a great program with some cool underwater footage but I thought this one did not turn out as good as some of the other episodes.

Yeah, I live in Palm Beach county and we got em all the way up here now, 85 miles north of Miami.  I live on a lake that is full of them.  They are fun, and these are the Butterfly peacocks in Florida, the big ones in S. America are Speckled Peacocks.  The butterflys get to about 10 lbs I have only seen 5-6 lbers so far. Still a 5 lb peacock fights like a 15 lb largemouth.

What does it taste like? or How do they taste?

Tastes like pea****.

I wouldn't eat them - they're too good looking and sporty.  If you're gonna eat a freshwater fish in S. FL make it a tilapia.  Supposedly they're delicious, and they're also a nuisance fish.

I hear that Peacocks are fairly good but like Tokyo said, eat the Talapia.  They are much better. Save the bass and eat the Taplapia, bream, catfish and speck.

Hook n Look is becoming my favorite fishing show. Kim Stricker has the best underwater video I've ever seen.

The Peacock episode was cool. Now I want to go down there and fish for them. I'll probably never make it down to South America, so South Florida would be a good alternative.

Butterflies get fairly big in South America.  The other day on an episode of Hunt for Big Fish, he caught a Butterfly that was around 14lbs.  Maybe a few more years of warmer weather will help them grow larger in s. florida.  After all Snook are starting to venture upwards to Jax.  and Bonefish are showing up in Naples.

Peacock bass (and pirhana for that matter) are absolutely delicious.  They have a firm white meat and taste unbeleivable with some simple seasonings.  We had the best shore lunch in Brazil the year before last.

Indeed!! One of my favorite fish to catch.... I will be moving in a few weeks and will miss them... :'(

I have a spot that noone else is allowed to fish in a retirement community. A buddy of mine does audio/visual work for them and they let us bring our jon boat and fish it!! We only get to go 3 or 4 times a year... The water is crystal clear and we litterally catch 50+ peacock bass everytime we go. By the end of the day our thumbs are bleeding... but very well worth it!

Biggest so far went 7.5lbs and let me tell you, she was a beauty!!

Oh yes, I saw the show and still have it recorded on the TIVO!

We have them in Hawaii (Lake Wilson) among other places.  Legendary fighting ability.

My mother was very partial to how they taste.  That was a long time ago so I don't remember, but I keep hearing that they taste great.

One thing though, we don't call them Peacock Bass, somehow or another we call them Tucanare (or "Tooks" for short), which is what the Natives in the Amazon call them.
