Still a Bigbuckifan Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Me and my buddy ( the one with the rod in his mouth ) went and did a little barramundi fishing today. The fish are on private property that we are lucky enough to get to fish when ever we want. Both fish are about 13 pounds and both were cought on 8 weight fly rods . we each cought about 10 fish in about 45 minutes. These fish are awsome. Quote
fivesixone Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 That is freakin' awesome, catchin' them on a fly rod... If I ever go up there anytime soon, I'm hollerin' at you haha Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 those are cool fish, but don't look anything like a snook Quote
Still a Bigbuckifan Posted July 25, 2008 Author Posted July 25, 2008 IMO they look alot like a snook . From what i've read there in the same family as a snook and nile perch. snook are the smallest ,then barramundi ,then nile perch. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 26, 2008 Super User Posted July 26, 2008 Only resemblance I see, from the angle of your buddies fish, are the gill plates. Other than that I don't see a snook look a like. I never even heard of the Barramundi. Where is it from and what do they eat? Interesting. I googled it. It starts out in life as a male and then converts into a female, just like a snook. Quote
Still a Bigbuckifan Posted July 26, 2008 Author Posted July 26, 2008 The barramundi are from Australia. There brought over to sell as food. They eat baby tilapia and high protein fish pellets. The fight awesome, they don't quit. Quote

Mepps Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Awesome fish! I bet that was some serious action on the light flyrods! Quote
fishingfourfun Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I saw an episode of Bill Dance Catching them earlier this year. I then looked up the price to fish for them and quickly realized it was to rich for my budget. It would be awesome to be able to fish for them anytime I liked! Quote
