bassnleo Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Caught this dude by accident while fising a bass tournament. Definately the largest musky I have ever caught. My partner holding the fish had trouble lifting it over the side. I didn't have a tape to measure it but I put my 24" dink board on it, it was 2 dink boards plus about 2" making it right around 50 inches. Weight?, I have no clue since I don't fish for these things.......definately over 30 pounds though! Quote
bassnleo Posted July 28, 2008 Author Posted July 28, 2008 Another.........Pics just don't do this fish justice! Quote
basser89 Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Nice toothy critter! Congrats! If you wouldn't have mentioned the size, I would have guessed low to mid 40's (but I do tend to judge them a little on the low side :-/ ). Kinda stinks though that you caught it in a tournament, it's harder to appreciate a fish like that when your under the gun on time! Quote
Super User Munkin Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 A true Musky not a hybrid tiger good job! Actually that is a rabbit musky and it was after your carrot sticks! Allen Quote
moby bass Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Dang! That's a quality fish! Pymatuning Lake by any chance? Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 I caught one last year about that size on the first cast of the year. Mine weighed 34 lbs. and was 47 inches if that helps any. Great fish!! Quote

billbrum Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Its not a 50 probably 44 or 45. making it 25-30 lbs. Quote
Big Tom Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Man thats a nice fish!!! I have hooked a couple while bass fishing and they end up cutting my line with their teeth. One of these days... Quote
bassnleo Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 Its not a 50 probably 44 or 45. making it 25-30 lbs. No offense, but as I mentioned, I did measure it. It was definately within an inch or two of 50, if not 50 on the money. As I also mentioned, pics did not reveal the true size of this fish. Had we not been fishing a tournament we would have taken more accurate measurements. It was hot, the fish was tired, and we wanted to get it back into the water plus get back to getting bass. I guess some people just don't believe unless they see it for themselves :-/ Quote
billbrum Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 None taken bassnleo. But if the fish is 50 inches it would be 4'2" and unless you are 7 ft. tall its not a 50. Don't take offense to this post but I am just saying what I think, take it for what you want. Quote

This pike was almost 42" and looks to be about the same size as that muskie. I'm 6'2". Nice fish bassnleo and pictures can be be deceiving. Quote
MskSlyr Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Nice Muskie. Not a lot of markings looks like the clear phase we see on the Potomac a lot. Quote
bassnleo Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 My pics here are REALLY deceiving, I'm still wishing I would have had more time and a better camera so I could have taken better, quality photos. Had we not been fishing a tournament we would have taken more time with what we had but I wanted to keep fishing as we were having a pretty good day. What the pic does not show, this fish was really FAT. Look at the pic, you can hardly see the guys hand. This fish was also long. The way he is holding it takes away from capturing it's length. I may never catch another ski this big! Quote
hamer08 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I don't think it matters if its 42" or 50" its an awesome fish and you'll remember it the rest of your life. Based on the 2nd picture, I would have guessed in the low 40s. It looks to be from ~ mid shin to nipple high. But pictures are deceiving, every 7 lb bass I see in the paper looks like it would only weigh 4.5 on my scale. Quote

macmaster761 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 dude that thing is huge, that must have been a hell of a fight on normal bass tackle Quote
Red Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 nice fish!! i caought on once that was just a baby, 36 inches, i guessed it to be around 10-12lbs. what a fight! i caught mine on a light spinning rig with 6lb test. i was walleye fishing, and while reeling in about a 10 inch walleye, it ate it. took me a looong time to land, but when i did, my little 1/8 jig head was hooked right in the corner of it mouth, with a walleye all mangled and dangling up my line.
