Saw two of these guys while fishing on the bank, didn't catch them but I have a feeling they might have been dumped there from an aquarium. I'm unsure what it is, but I'm curious to know.

Try doing a google search on Myan Chiclid That is exactly what it is.  They are all over the place down a little south of you.  They are a non native south american species that no knowledge of there introduction is know. They fight really good though for a smaller fish I have seen them up to 2 lbs.

I looked at the mayan chiclid and I'm pretty sure that's what it was.

After looking at the pic I also think that's what it is.

Myan chiclid. When they are mating their colors really intensify into bright orange and blue. They are great fighters and will go for anything from bread balls, nightcrawlers, to live shinners. When you set the hook they just take off! When you reel them in you would think they were twice the size they really are.
