guys , i know this is a bass forum , but some of u have experience with big fish.

in 5 months i ll go for a fishing trip in egypt to fish exclusively for nile perch and tiger fish.

for tiger fish my bass tackle is perfect

for nile perch we ll do mostly trolling (i have all the tackle, lures needed) but we ll do some shore fishing and this is where i need your help.

the guide recommends :

Shore Fishing Rods & Reels

To land a big fish from the shore, you need to fish heavy. Rods should  have a test curve of 3.5lb - 4lb. Reels should be big enough to hold at least 200 yards of 20 - 30lb monofiliment.

i was thinking for a swimbait rod but problem is that i cant carry a one piece with me. it has 2 be 2 pieces at least.

any recommendations guys?  ::)  (i prefer baitcasting equipment)

as for the lures i ll throw SWIMBAITS

baitfish  there is tilapia and u know which lure they ll be seeing for first time  ;D ;D ;D

Oh man that looks excellent!  If you'd like to use baitcasting gear then a Calcutta 400 should be ideal, paired with a GLoomis Muskie rod.  Rods only come in one piece from what I see though....

I fish for a fish down here in florida called barramundi( In avatar) . There nile perchs little brother and let me tell you a catching 10 pound barras are awsome i cant image hooking into one of those 150-200# nile perch. Also if there any thing like barra's they spend more time jumping than they do swiming. ohh yeah The hotter the weather the better good luck catch one for me. This one is about 15#

Thanks . Probably I ll lean to muskie setup. I ll already got a 400 size reel . It should be ok.

Hi,

i have not caught a Nile Perch by myself, but friends told me that they fight rather lame (one run, a few jumps and they are out of power)...

They used the same tackle (for shore fishing) as for Northern Pike.

What is yout rod-length limit?

Hi Vyron,

my 1st choice would be a deps Dom Driver paird with a conquest 400 - but the rod is 6,2' without handle. :-/

The deps Slap Shot would also make a great stick for medium size swimbaits (and its under 6').

St.Croix has at least one 1-piece Musky Rod (PM70HF2) but I have never fished this stick.
