trout fishing

what do you guys suggest are some good tackle choices for fishing trout with spinning gear.

2" and 3" Berkley Power Minnows have been working well for me lately, in the white/black back with 1/16 and 1/8 oz jigheads.  You can use anywhere from 2 lb test mono to 10 lb test braid (which is what I've been using lately), with really any type of M power or less rod.  Just cast it out and slowly work it and twitch it near the bottom in deep pools below rapids, occasionally ticking the rocks.  If that doesn't work, you can always use an inline spinner.  My favorites are Blue Fox Vibrax spinners.  They start spinning immediately, cast far, and never have problems getting fouled up.  The color hasn't seemed to matter too much for me lately, but you can experiment.  If you see trout rising, you can sight cast to the rises and retrieve the inline spinner close to the surface.

I've been fishing smallish trout streams in CT, but I don't see why the same tactics wouldn't produce elswhere, or in lakes.  For pics see my recent post in Other Species  ;D

Its been many a mooooooons since i fished with spinning gear or bait for trout.

Live fathead minnows with no weight, jigged erratically. Silver blue fox inline spinners. Pink salmon eggs. Believe it or not CORN. Wax worms.

Since I've caught many trout since my last post in this thread, I'll add what has become my top producer:

Lucky Craft Pointer 65, Ghost Minnow, American Shad, Aurora Black, and Chartreuse Minnow. You can use a bigger size, and I've caught good trout on the 78 size, but 65 is great. Caught my pb this past Saturday (4 lb brown - will post when pictures are developed) on this lure in Chart. Minnow, and I've stood side-by-side with live bait fisherman and outfished them 3-5 to 1. Don't use hard jerks, just little gentle twitches. It drives the trout crazy  ;D

Do you really honestly use a pointer for trout fishing.... You guys make me sick.

you could use a thunderbolt (its new) walmart carries it. its just a golden spoon pretty much but  i nailed 43 trout opening day and 32 the day after. it works pretty great. but besides that i just use roostertails and banjo minnows. old school but hey it works

As far as spin lures/baits, straight line spinners.  Live bait = worms, minnows, leech's, crickets, corn.

Those are beautiful Hoffman. Nice work. I knew Tony would be here. Haven't had a chance at the trout yet this season but I usually have splendid luck with little joe inline spinners, panther martins and my favorite.......... rooster tails. When my box is low I hit up the terminal tackle........ I tie on a swivel clamp and attach a small silver spoon.... and a small sharp hook with a worm on it. Gets em every time.

Ive been out for trout about 5 times this year and havent caught anything. I just think its so boring after being able to go for ten minutes on a good day and catch a nice 3 pound smallie that fights like crazy there just no comparison so i dont have any favorite lures because none of the ones i try ever work.........ERRRRRRR

Oh I almost forgot, i get a good smallie run in the stream thats also stocked below my house. They love a Yozuri Pins Minnow.
