Loudy Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 What kind of bait do you suggest for panfish. I can only catch them on live worms. Anything you can think of. Thank you for your time Quote
Fish Man Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 1/32 ounce wordens roostertail and 1/8 ounce blue fox in line spinners for me Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 17, 2008 Super User Posted February 17, 2008 Small Roostertails in white/grey or white/black spots. Use a barrel swivel to help reduce line twist. Small white curly tail grub (1/2 inch is best if you can find them or a 1 inch as the largest) on a 1/64 jig head. Once again, use a swivel to help reduce line twist. Gulp!'s yellow perch bait in the jar. White bread rolled into small beads and placed on your #6 gold hook. Small kernals of cooked corn out of the can. Peices of Nightcrawlers or other worms. If you want to attract the panfish to your area then take some white bread, tear it up into peices and throw it on top of the water where you will be fishing. Quote
deep-cranker Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 I catch panfish on strike king bisty pond minnow crankbaits and bomber fat A #3. For some reason the bass and crappie love these baits too. Quote
maxke01 Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 For panfish i would say nightcrawlers. then again I'm trying to get out of the live bait kick so this thread should help me also Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 17, 2008 Super User Posted February 17, 2008 x3 on crickets. Red wiggler worms. For artificials - small beetle spins. Johnson Beetle Spins will catch anything. Quote
Other. Rig it with either a 1/32 or 1/16th jid head. You can swim it, Work it like a tube, and put it under a slip bobber and just let it dangle over the fish and they will go to it. Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Trout Magnets, or tiny tubes on the jighead that comes with Trout Magnets, also Powerbait Nymphs work well on these jigheads too. I don't use any bobber, I just slowly twitch it along the bottom. Quote
Ballpark Frank Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I like any small inline spinner. When they change up, I like Berkley Gulp earthworms. I used six jars last year. The panfish bite can change in a matter of seconds, so I usually have plenty of artificials and live bait. My all time best winner is a live cricket under a slip bobber. That and the Gulp, put alot of gills in the fryer last year. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Super User Posted February 19, 2008 I'd use a 2" curly tail on a 1/16 oz. jig head. Have caught thousands of panfish - bluegill & crappie - on these. Colors would be dictated by the waters you fish. I've never known them to fail. Quote
RASCAL Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Live Crickets Dont the crickets break apart fairly easy/fast? Quote
RASCAL Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 What kind of bait do you suggest for panfish. I can only catch them on live worms. Anything you can think of. Thank you for your time Do you buy your earthworms or just dig them up ? I ask as I am not far from you(Doral) and looking for live worm bait shop? I have dug them up but have only found so many. Thanks Quote
jrhennecke Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I use redworms. I have caught warmouth on 4" senkos and had a day last year when I caught a few nice blue gill on a 1/2 spinnerbait. Quote
Evan Pease Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 When I fish for bigger ones I like Rocket Shads, floating rapalas, and jointed shad raps. For any size you cant beat an inline. Quote
bocabasser Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 well if you are not afraid to get your feet wet, walk in the water (about 6 inches-1 foot) and dig through the sand and retrieve some clams. crack them open and use the meat of the clam. catches bream, cichlids, and all kinds of small fish. the meat will stay on the hook for a couple of fish. the best thing is they are free. Super User Catt Posted March 19, 2008 Super User Posted March 19, 2008 Crickets hold up very well; another excellent bait is Hominy Corn Quote
