jb_adams Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I know I've seen a picture of a fish like this on here before. My buddy's boss caught one of these in freshwater. What kind of fish is it? I've tried finding something on the Internet and can't ID it. Any thoughts? Quote
CL Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 its a catfish, what one i dont know not a channel Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted April 30, 2008 Super User Posted April 30, 2008 That's a flathead catfish. Quote
LakeAnnaBasser Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 It looks like a gator slash catfish ;D But seriously I dont have a clue. Quote
CL Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 That's a flathead catfish. im not the smartest, that i also called a bullhead right?? and from what bob lusk said i need to get those out of my pond Quote
jb_adams Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 That's a flathead catfish. It's got spikes on top of it behind the head....look again. I looked up sculpin but that's mainly a saltwater fish. I looked up "horney headed chub" but that's not it either. I also tried the bull-head and flat-head. Not it either. A flathead has a REALLy wide flat head. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted April 30, 2008 Super User Posted April 30, 2008 I didn't see those spikes. Wow, that's a strange. And yes CL Bob would tell you to get those things out of your lake. They are preditor fish that compete with your bass. Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted April 30, 2008 Super User Posted April 30, 2008 I am so relieved that it is something other than a catfish because when I first looked at the picture I thought to myself, "who in the world does not know what a catfish looks like." ;D Quote
jb_adams Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 I stand corrected, it was a flathead after all. Those spikes are scars on it's back. The picture was taken with a camera phone so the color is off a bit. I've seen flatheads before, but this one is a bit weird looking for a flathead. The tail looks different and the color is a bit odd. Oh well, thanks everyone! Quote
flippincrazy Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 small flathead, let him grow and cathem' again Quote
SenkoBasser Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Definately a flathead. I was thinking it could be a yellow bullhead, but the spikes dont add up. It looks a little pale..... low water temps? Quote
