Super User Root beer Posted April 14, 2008 Super User Posted April 14, 2008 I'm just about to book a trip to venice, La for some redfishing!! Anyone been to venice? if so how the redfishing action down there? I heard it the best in the world and I hope it as good as advertised. Quote
apathy Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 never been to LA, but redfishing is my favorite type of fishing! do it every weekend. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted April 15, 2008 Super User Posted April 15, 2008 Not that long ago, "Mosquito Lagoon" out of Oak Hill, Florida was deemed the best red drum fishing in the world, followed by Charlotte Harbor. That was for numbers of course, because the largest red drum are taken from the ocean off the Carolinas (100-pound neighborhood). In the recent past however, Louisiana seems to have bypassed Florida with respect to numbers of drum, but I've never fished in Louisiana. Roger Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted April 15, 2008 Super User Posted April 15, 2008 I have not been to Venice, but I do live near the gulf (AL) and I can tell you the reds are going nuts right now. The real big boys can be found near the oil rigs. During this time of year it is not uncommon to catch fish that only exceed 25lbs off the rigs. Good luck. Quote
hawgchaser Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I was fishing in Venice about a month ago. It is unbelievable and I am going back in June. Here are me and some friends. It was my fishing buddies bachelor party and it was a blast!! Who's your guide? I actually spoke with Capt. Boola yesterday and they are tearing them up right now. I haven't fished with Boola but I may give him a try in the fall. This is my buddy and his dad with one heck of a double! This is me and my guide. We boated 40 fish in this one little entry to a pond. None of them were big bulls but still fun. Here was a typical one. My buddies dad caught this monster! Quote
Super User Root beer Posted April 17, 2008 Author Super User Posted April 17, 2008 hawg, I'm considering booking with boola in june. Thanks for the pictures I'll start getting things organized and give boola and call and start making plans and choose the date. Quote
hawgchaser Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I can give you the name of 3 guys that I recommend. Boola, Bobby Warren(thats who I use), and Andy Mnichowski. Andy has the nicest Lodge but you will pay more. The place is sweet with 50" flat screens, a bar, and really nice beds. He charges 200/night to stay there but that includes food. The lodge is 7000 sq/ft and you will fish out of a brand new Ranger. However all the boats are nice and most use Skeeters. Hope you have fun its a fishermans paradise. Quote
