The minnows come into the trap through the larger opening, not the little bitty holes in the lid.

also i'm buidling a bait hold made out of mesh and pvc what size should it be i wouold like it to hold huders of minnows blue gill shiners shad.

Well, start out with a dozen or two until you have some experience keeping them alive. Blue gills and minnows are fairly easy, shad are not. If the water is reasonably cool, you can keep them confined in the lake, pond or river, but you are still going to need a portable aerator if you transport them any distance.

That's ridiculous.

A trap is for catching fresh bait. You can't catch them now and keep them for winter.

Before implementing your plan, get on the net and do a little research.

X2 there is no way you will be able to keep them alive that long, you will be lucky if they live a week wit an areator. You need to really research what you want to do before you kill all the baitfish. ;)

That's the point: You can't "store" them.

Trap some bait the day or night before

you plan to use them. Long-term storage

is not a viable option.

I've bought minnows and had them live for weeks just changing the water daily with cold water and not keeping them in to warm of place. So if done correctly they can be stored but getting them now for winter isn't going to work.

hmmm i find those minnow traps WAY more rediculous than this kids quest to have his stock of live bait.

20 bucks plus 7 dollars shipping for an UTZ'S PRETZEL JAR WITH A BUNCH OF HOLES DRILLED IN IT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?1?!?!?!?

that has got to be the rip off of the century. :(:) :) :)

kid, stay away from those traps like they are the plague.

you can go to walmart and buy a Frabill minnow trap that is made of vinyl coated steel for about 7 bucks. http://mickiesplace.com/store/product/6655/Frabill%3Cbr%3E-Deluxe-Steel-Minnow-Trap/

i have used that trap a lot to catch bait. i catch minnows, small bluegill, and even crawfish in it. use catfood or old lunch meat as bait.

and the others are right, you won't be able to store your bait for winter. the most you could store it for is a couple of days. they could have been a little less rude about it though. :-/

PS: use PERIODS!!! it makes sentences easier to follow.  ;)
