Croakers are great eating!

I second that. Me and some friends stayed at one of our ex friends house down on the rappahannock river. She has a private dock on Urbanna Creek which is one of the tributaries of it. Anyway, one night we nailed like 8 of these guys between 1-3lbs each and filleted all of them. Needless to say... they were freaking amazing. Some salt, butter, and pepper... add a bit of hot sauce... W00T!!!

Sooooo good. Not one fillet got thrown away.

Fish tank how do you not like catching croakers???  The fight they put up is amazing.  As far as fights go I'd take a carp or croaker over anything else (freshwater or brackish).  Though I've only caught two Striper and one was only a lb.  I heard those things fight like the dickens.

I forgot to mention how hard they fight. I go after them with 8 lb line and spinning tackle. A 3 lb croaker goes crazy when it sees the boat!

They wrap around your line and twist it into a horrendous knot, they are as slippery as a bar of soap, and the slime is impossible to get off your hands. ugh

Sunfish (because they don't put up a fight and they rip the tails of some expensive softbaits

Say what?  If they got to be 10 lbs you'd probably never land one!!

I hate "Gators" (northern pike and musky).  Slimy stinkin' bags of bones that snap off too many baits with those teeth.  I don't mind the battle but I hate the fish.  I just pull my hooks out of them without brining their foul, stinkin', slimy bodies in my boat.

when I lived in upstate NY there was a fish we called "sheepshead" that everyone hated. I think that's just a regional nickname though... I think they actually called freshwater drum. I never particularly cared for catching them, but man would they put up a fight! Pound for pound they can outfight any bass.

Found a picture of one...

I agree with mobydick.  I hate fallfish.  I was going to say I hate carp but carp seldom harass my bass baits.  Fallfish, on the other hand, too regularly jump on my lure, leading me to think I've hooked a smallmouth.

I've never caught an eel so I can't really say.  But I don't think I'd care to catch one of those, either.

I agree with mobydick also I do really hate cathcing fallfish when I'm targeting bass. But now if I'm just out with my cousins I'll take 'em to the local hole that is mostly rock bass and fallfish, then I don't have a problem with them. But the kind of fish I really hate catching are the big ones taht got away 'cause no one believes you I also don't like them big wooden fish that have a tendency to eat lures and plastics like nothin especially the ones that are too deep to see where it is or too deep to get too.

I hate catching pike when out fishing. I don't care for catching them in middle of day but when I am mainly targetting bass they get annoying. I hate when they cut you off or when they tear up your bait also.

SALTWATER:

croakers i think there called.....small and black....they fight good when i first hit it, and i think maybe i got a flounder, or a solo bluefish, they are nasty and i gotta use a towel to get the hook out

FRESHWATER:

SMALL PIKE- I can tell usually because they hit it and you feel a 2 or 3 small taps......

after about 5 secs of a fight, they literly drag accross the surface, it makes you look like an idiot when you catch them

also, with the teeth, i never know how to handle them becuase i catch them so rarely...just a pain in the butt,.....unless they were bigger

Johnnydel,

I think you are refering to toadfish, croakers are long, silver and purple.

Toadfish do croak though.

I hate to catch bowfin (dogfish), they're a real pain. Whenever they are around, all other gamefish leave. They fight like crazy, but they are just a pain in the butt.

Falcon

Funny, I don't think it's the same fish but "Dogfish" is my answer too.  They are a type of sand shark that love to ruin $70 Tuna leaders.  Once they are in the area,.....move. This really sucks when you are on your secret numbers.

ya i hate toe dogfish aka sandsharks, ruin a day of striper fishing only to find out the next time you go striper fishing all your hooks are in a dogfish's mouth swiming around somewhere

Mayan Cichlid. They are nasty little buggers. They are from the Amazon and  can be found every were in south FLA. They have small mouths with sharp teeth and sharp spinal fins. When I am trying to catch big bass I sometimes use live bluegills or shiners for bait. These suckers will come up to the live bait and just bite the heads clean off, and then just leave the rest of the fish!  >:( Now I am left with a dead headless bait (that a bass wont go near), and they never come back to finish the job.

Definitely bonita. It's a good fight and all, but when I'm on the ocean, I want to catch fish I can actually eat.

no man take it inshore, when you waste your biggest shrimp on probably the biggest pinfish around. That sucks.

Selfish - but some time I even catch this  :-/

But really perch they keep swallowing the trebles and I hate to hurt them when I take them out.

Saltwater catfish.

The first one I ever caught was especially small. I didn't know anything about them and didn't think anything about releasing the little fish. Well, as you might expect, I got stuck! I hurt a lot when it happened and then got MUCH worse.

x2 - sailcats have a poisonous barb that will ruin your next couple of days

Freshwater drum is known as sheepshead or gaspergou

The Atlantic croaker belongs to the family of fishes which includes other Bay species such as spot, black drum and red drum. The croakers and drums characteristically produce a drumming sound by vibrating their swim bladders with special muscles. Croakers are luminescent and appear pink when first removed from the water.

Gafftopsail catfish also known as Sail Cat, Sea Cat, & Slime Cat

What roadworrior probably caught was The Hardhead Catfish (Arius felis), or Bait Rustler as I call him, is a notorious bait stealer. Hardheads are considered by most fishermen to be a nuisance very similar to fleas on a dog's back.
