So what you think?  Will my 7 1/2 Loomis and a  6/0 or 7/0 EWG be big enough?

These bad boys are popping up everywhere here in S. Fla.  They are plentiful in Miami but I'm seeing them way up in Palm Beach.

Those guys are awesome...i had one as a pet a few years back...i got it to 3 feet long + another foot long for the tail.I wouldn't wanna make them mad..they do get aggressive.

Yeah, their tails can hurt when they get to whipin them around. LoL

I heard the bites not as pleasant either.  I see these at my local pet shop every now and then.  The one up the road from me in Woodbridge (Critters and Creatures) has a pet one not for sale that is about 4' long.  They call him Goliath.  He looks real cool.  Nice pics.

Here a factoid for you.  A full grown adult male has enough strength in his tail to break a 6ft mans femur.

Now, they use the tail to slap, not break, but as far as forces involved,....pretty impressive.

I had one of these for 7 yrs.  She was huge.  When I got her, (in Vt) the local vet happened to be a guy who had a grant regarding the reproduction of Iguanas in captivity.  He was a huge help.  He turned me on to "Monkey chow" biscuits by Zoopreme.  Soak them in milk before feeding to an Iguana and they get HUGE, like steroid huge.

BTW- The house fire I commonly refer to where I lost most of my skiing memorabilia, was caused by a faulty timer on the heat rock in her pen.  She passed in the fire

I hope this isn't the lizard you're talking about (I can't view the pictures), but when I was younger living in Miami, my friends and I would chase these lizards and catch them.  They're so awesome - they literally run across the surface of the water, and it's one of the coolest things I've ever seen.  Unfortunately, they bite, and the bigger ones bite hard.

tokyo i believe they are talking about iguanas. they have became a huge nuisance in south florida. we have curly tails and balisks here as well. those balisks aremean mothers. if you ever catch one, look down their throat and you will see a wide hole. they are carnivorous and eat all of the native lizards here. south florida is truly a jungle. in the glades i have seen pythons up to 12 feet. talk about scaring the bejezuz out of you.

Do the brown iguanas run across water?  The ones I'm thinking of ran across the surface of the water, got up to about 2 feet long including the long tail, and looked kind of like dinosaurs, raptors, specifically.  My buddies and I used to call them raptor lizards.

most of the iguanas down here do not "walk" across the water. they swim under the water--and they swim extremely fast and stream like. the ones that run across the water, i call them jesus christ lizards. there are soooo many exotics down here, that it is scary.

Yeah I've seen tons of iguanas down there there but the lizards I was talking about are the "Jesus Christ lizards", and it's amazing to watch them sprint across the surface of the water.  Amazing, especially given their size.  We're not talking little 3 inch lizards, we're talking in some cases a lizard around two feet (with the tail) just sprinting across a canal or something.
