[[J4cks0n.Shr3dd3r]] Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 I caught a catfish on a rooster tail 2 days ago in Illinois... Quote
phase5supply Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 I caught one on a black/blue senko, it was only about 2 lbs. I would love to catch a big 20 lber while bass fishing, that is until I got to the boat and seen it was a cat not a big lunker, lol heck I would still be happy I caught a fish! Quote
armesjr Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Yeah i have got one on a spinnerbait and one on a black tube. Both times only to realize it was a catfish. The catfish i caught on the tube, i caught using 6lb test and it took like 10 minutes to reel in, i was pretty livid when i saw that ugly thing istead of the monster bass i was expecting. Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 I have caught 2 catfish on small yellow/white colored spinner baits. Both were around 4 pounds. Quote
Vyron Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 I got a 12-14 pounder on a big spinner bait . Fought like crazy. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 4, 2007 Super User Posted August 4, 2007 Deadeye, Add me to your list. I have caught catfish in lakes, rivers and ponds on crankbaits, spinnerbaits and plastics. I also nailed one on a Chatterbait. Why I remember that cat was that the Chatterbait hook actually broke in half when I tried to get it out of the cat's mouth. That was one heck of a surprise. I have also caught Pike and Bowfin on spinnerbaits. Go figure. Quote
dgquail Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 I have caught catfish on crankbaits, grubs, jigs, spinnerbaits, shakey rigged finesse worms.. Quote
Super User David P Posted August 4, 2007 Super User Posted August 4, 2007 Caught a 5lber last week in a tournament on a Suspending Jerkbait.. Quote
jeremyt Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 I know it may sound funny, but I have known people to troll spoons for cats on Kerr lake in NC/Va Quote
deerhuneter02 Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I've never caught a catfish while bass fishing but they are pretty stupid and will go for anything that looks life food. Quote
rondef Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I have caught catfish on spinnerbaits in the Potomac river at Belmont Bay. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 30, 2007 Super User Posted October 30, 2007 I've caught them on Rat-l-traps and spinnerbaits. More on Rat-l-Traps. Quote

rondef Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I caught this 34 inch, 25lb plus channel catfish on a Booyah Boogie Bait. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 13, 2007 Super User Posted November 13, 2007 I have two Shimano Bait Runner spinning reels that I use to catch the big catfish out of the James River. I use 25 pound mono and 50 pound mono leader attached to a powerful swivel. The 3/0 circle hooks work great. The sinker is on a slide that can move up and down the line. These reels cost in excess of $100 and they are excellent. I strongly suggest getting the Bait Runner reels if you want to catch catfish on a spinning reel. That is, large catfish. Really large catfish, like over 20 pounds and up. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted November 15, 2007 Super User Posted November 15, 2007 Catching cats on spinnerbaits or ratltraps is a heck of a lot better than catching a @$#&%n snapping turtle Quote
Super User FishTank Posted November 15, 2007 Super User Posted November 15, 2007 I smoked a Shimano Sahara 750 and a All Star Rod last year using an inline spinner bait when I brought in a 40+lb catfish. I was fising for smallmouth and crappie but for some reason this monster decided to jump on a silver Mepps #3. They will eat anything when their hungry. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 I've caught catfish several times on spinnerbaits usualy crappie type spinner and onece on a beetle spin. I've also caught them on swimbaits quite a bit A couple of months back I caught right in a row a crappie, a small bass and a 2.5 lb catfish on a 1/8oz crappie spinner Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 I smoked a Shimano Sahara 750 and a All Star Rod last year Wow you must have been faded The only freshwater cat I've ever caught was on a little marabou jig with a slip bobber Quote
