RobDar Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I know, not bass fishing...but the news just did a story ona guy who caught a Pirahna in North Carolina... A PIRAHNA?????? he thought he had a catfish and when got the fish up it attacked him...was apparently a fair sized fish as well... Quote
Troutfisher Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I just saw that on the news as well, Fox News, right? How in the world do you mistake THAT for a catfish??? :-? Quote
Big T Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 That's intersting. I wonder what kind of idiot put it in the water. It is illegal in NC to be in possesion of any type of Piranaha. They will throw you in jail over that. I also wonder if the fish was actually a red belly Pacu , they look alot like Piranha's. Big T Quote
Troutfisher Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I don't think it was, because they said it put a dent in this guy's knife. Pacu's teeth wouldn't be that powerful, I wouldn't think. Quote

A good size Pacu can chomp your finger away with ease, they have even more powerful teeth and jaws than piranhas that only eat flesh, pacus on the other hand have to bite through ver hard skinned fruit and nuts. WhiteMike1018 Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 PIRANHA? In NC? great lets all go swimming! Quote
preach4bass Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 From what I'm hearing it was a real piranah. A biologist (state biologist I assume) identified it as one. So much for the July 4th dip in the river I was planning ;D Quote
Super User T-rig Posted July 4, 2007 Super User Posted July 4, 2007 Soon there will be nile perch and baramundis swimming around! Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 We have one here in Hazleton PA. Super User Raul Posted July 5, 2007 Super User Posted July 5, 2007 I think her biological clock is at critical mass by this time Core melt down and a big bang ? :-? Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Here's the story that was in the paper yesterday. http://www.newsobserver.com/news/story/624975.html It also mentions a snakehead being caught in a local lake as well. People are not too bright that do this. Of course, its propably some PETA or greenpeace person that no longer wants to deal with their "exotic" pet after they have shown it off to everyone. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 I think her biological clock is at critical mass by this time Core melt down and a big bang ? :-? I think it's the other way around, a big bang might trigger a core melt down Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted July 6, 2007 Super User Posted July 6, 2007 A similar thing happened here in a tiny community lake down the street from my house about 10 years ago. Quote

llPa1nll Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I was fishing in my marina probably 10-12yrs ago. I had on a small floating Rapala Minnow. I was just messing around with it had to have been in the middle of September or so. What comes out from under one of the docks following this all the way across the Marina? A Red Oscar. Now I tried my Damnedest to try and catch it but I couldn't trigger him to bite. I ended up leaving and thinking to myself who was the idiot who let an exotic fish like that go in a Public Lake. I really didn't need to worry what long term harm he was going to cause. I mean I am sure that when that water started to freeze over that he would be crawfish food by then. Quote
Guest ncbass24 Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Yikes! At lest its at the other end of the state. Quote

Well, tell us all about it! I can't remember the details really. I just remember seeing it on the news and I think about it each time I drive past the lake. I was only 12-14 years old at the time. I'll second that i have a pacu he is about 20" long and is about 8lbs. He will bite a carrot in two with no problem and smashed the rim of a alumnem fishng net when i was tring to fish him out of the tank. there no joke and cam get up to 3 feet long and eat any thing Quote
