MuchyMan Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 i went fishing for carp a couple of days ago and i all i caught was a bad case of poison ivy. what are the best baits? i fished nightcrawlers and doughballs covered in lemonade mix. all i caught was a 12'' bass Quote
MuchyMan Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 thanks for the help. i agree about bowfin but never caught a snakehead. Quote
insaneangler Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I fish for carp on a small river and all I really use is canned corn or fresh sweet corn, probably doesnt matter but how are you rigging the bait? cause that could make all the difference all I do is lay it on the bottom I really dont know any others. good luck! the captain Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I fish a small crick for carp and catfish but I also fish a smaller river for the same for both I use worms, doughballs, and licorice. Quote

VikingsFan Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 As previously stated you can catch carp using a variety of baits. Pick up a few different baits to try and see which ones work the best for you. I personally use Nightcrawlers, corn, and boilies. Good luck. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted September 2, 2007 Super User Posted September 2, 2007 All my carps are coming on the jig and pig....they hit that thing with aggression! I just got another one today off the beaver from ***. You can say i'm fishing for bass and carps now.... ;D Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 7, 2007 Super User Posted September 7, 2007 I have heard that mulberries make good carp bait. Another trick is to mix strawberry kool-aid powder in with your dough bait. Quote
stilldontlikeyou Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 I've had some success with corn. I always chum the area with corn about 10 minutes prior to putting my line in. Quote
bocabasser Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 not sure if you have them up there, but ficus berries kill them down here in florida. Quote
GatorBK Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 For grass carp Ficus berries like Boca said or even white bread . I catch grassies on white bread. I have caught common carp on everything from nightcrawlers to gold spoons. I caught a few carp in lake Jocassie SC trolling gold spoons 50 feet deep over 300 feet of water . I was trolling for brown trout and kept catching 8 to 10 lb carp I use to fish carp tournaments in NC here is a bait I used But it takes a few ingredients. Get some ground troutchow . A box of sugar pops (cereal) and they make a strawberry flavoring , mello fruit, butternut are also my favorites . Get the troutchow wet it with water and some flavoring . get it wet enough just to make a loose doughball. Put a sugar pop on your hook. Form a large doughball around your hook , Over the sugar pop with the troutchow. Cast out and let sit. The troutchow will dissolve in the water putting off scent and exposing the sugar pop . the carp cannot resist that and will suck up the sugar pop and run with it. If you cannot find the flavoring it will work with out it. And catfish chow will take the place of trout chow also Also you can use millet and Karo syurp and flavoring to make a dough ball And cooked rice and flavoring also makes a good bait but be sure to make a tight enough ball around the sugar pop to cast it but loose enough to crumble away on the bottom exposing the sugar pop here is a rough drawing( in the link below )of the rig I use for carp keep the leaders short off of the 3 way only make them 4 or 5 inches http://www.carpanglersgroup.com/ncpaylak...
