Super User Marty Posted August 12, 2007 Super User Posted August 12, 2007 I have fished for carp on and off for about 15 years. There is nothing I ever hook into that makes my reel sing like a carp does. I know they're a problem fish in some places, but still a great sport fish as far as I'm concerned. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted August 13, 2007 Super User Posted August 13, 2007 I love catching carp more than any other fish. Which reminds me, I need to hit a local carp hotspot and spend the morning trying to boat a 20+ lb. fish. Quote
the captain Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Can you eat these fish? I have heard of people doing out of the Mississippi but never tried it. If so what are some good recipes. Quote
bass109 Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 there is a special way to cook the fish (fish being very bony), Carp are better to eat from fresh clear water because they feed off the bottom. If a carp for instance comes form a muddly lake, pond, ect. It will most likely taste like that. Quote
Super User Marty Posted August 18, 2007 Super User Posted August 18, 2007 Agree with bass109; they're fine if they come from good water. For many years carp was (maybe still is) a main ingredient in the popular food among Jewish people, gefilte fish. Quote
the captain Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 What about out of a crick or river that is clear at some points and muddy others? Quote
Ghetto_Basser Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 We would chum with ceral and you could just kill them then. Quote
