I dunno it looks like a world record bullhead  :-?....but it just may be the picture , I cannot see its head or tip of its tail real good.

My guess would be a blue cat with an odd color

BK i just looked at my pic and it isnt very big 2 pounds at the most(guessing from its size when i caught it) it just looked big because i had to get my phone really close to it to get a halfway decent pic of him/her...if it helps my uncle in the back ground is about 2 feet behind it

ok it looked bigger in the pic , my guess is a bullhead then 99 percent sure, You can eat them but cut the fat meat out it gets strong.

Did the tail have a severe fork?

If so, channel cat.  If it was rounded (and it appears to be so given the photo), bullhead.

You can lip a cat, just be prepared to lose some skin.

Think bass teeth multiplied by 20.

I wore through the fingers of a new leather glove last summer running a trot line.

DO not lip a catfish, especially a large one.  There teeth are like sand paper but what really hurts is there jaw pressure.  Many times they'll chomp down and start barrel rolling.  Its best to hold them by tightly holding there failfin, and placing your hand under there stomach.  Rubber net is the best way though.

You can with channel cats, don't do it with the other ones though, unless you have a crowbar handy to pry your thumb out.
