BigAL Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 First off Iam a die hard bass fishermen but lately been running into some mud fish and I hate to admitt it but they fight alot harder than bass!I realize they do trash some types of lures,my question is why havent they caught on more as a sought after sport fish? skillet Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 I have only caught them by accident while bream fishing when I was lot younger (a whole lot ;D) and they do put up a heck of a battle. I don't know how you would fish for on purpose... As Ever, skillet Quote
tuxdaddy Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Yep that'd be them... If memory serves me( and it usuallyu doesn't do it too well), They're a might bit toothy if you know what I mean, and you can wind up with a few stitches if you try to lip'em.. Something about having a few rows of teeth instead of one, but not sure if I'm right on that... Quote
Gotta Love It Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Mudfish can definitely make a bad day of bass fishing a little better. They will hit mostly anything you throw for bass! I have caught a few on buzzbaits too! Quote
JayW Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 They're actually kinda popular. They even have Mudfish tournaments. I don't remember where or when, but I read an article in a magazine that talked about the tournaments. They do fight good, but they are nasty to put in the boat. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Why would anyone want to catch mudfish, they are a horrible fish. I hate mudfish. I have actually started a group called FFAB (Florida Fishermen Against Bowfin). I kill every mudfish I come in contact with. Take out the knife and make a nice big slice in thier belly and toss them back, they are a nuisance to bass. They eat bass fry and eat what bass eat, so they take away the food supply from the bass. KILL ALL MUDFISH. Quote
Ky_Lake_Dude Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 I've caught three or four and I love catching them. Although I don't target them specifically catching one is just a plus while I'm bass fishing. My biggest one was around 6lbs and I caught it with my dad flipping laydowns in a small creek in the Pickwick Dam tailwaters. Quote
NCthompson Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 i have been catching them recently on plastic lizards Quote
jb_from_texas Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Yep that'd be them... If memory serves me( and it usuallyu doesn't do it too well), They're a might bit toothy if you know what I mean, and you can wind up with a few stitches if you try to lip'em.. Something about having a few rows of teeth instead of one, but not sure if I'm right on that... VERY toothy. After losing 3-4 bass a foot away from the boat i told my friend that the next fish was not going to get away. When we hooked into another i practically dove in, well not quite, but i made sure to lip this one. It was a mudfish and he hooked onto me like a steel bear trap and wouldnt let go. it took several minutes to pry his mouth open with pliers. i bled like a stuck pig. Quote
