Painter Dude Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 The Popeil's Pocket Fisherman I bought my wife as a wedding anniversary present... that ended up costing me a set of diamond earrings. It sits next to the Bass-o-matic and the hot air popcorn popper down in the basement. Thats showing your age! Mine is the "Snakes" Quote

SuskyDude Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 After asking around this is a pretty common problem with shimano. I have never experienced binding and although I have heard this said, I have never met anyone in person that has experienced this "problem". So, I am not disparaging you, I simply do not think this is a "common problem". : Two out of my three Shimano spinning reels is enough for me to say I'll never buy them again. (I do have one stradic that doesn't bind). I have heard many people testify about the bind. I have heard many people testify that they've owned numerous reels without the bind. If you've never experienced the problem, then don't let me ruin your fun! But I can gaurantee that it's more "common" than you think. Quote
tritz18 Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Storm baits Same here, they sink like a rock and the action is terrible Quote
Titleman Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Ditto that!! Also the packaging sucks big time. I had several packages in my supply. Noticed one day that most all of them appeared to be breaking down. The white part became wet / liquefied and if it got on my hands, smelled bad and kinda petroleum based. Anyway, I threw all of the packages of swim baits away, including the lures. I just didn't want that mess in my tackle bag. Tom Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 25, 2008 Super User Posted July 25, 2008 Remember the Abu Garcia Eon, I have one for sale used once. Why they made that reel I will never know, why I bought it I will never know. I will sell it cheap, you guys just had to remind me. I had one of those too. Emphasis on the "had" Add another member to that club ! Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 SK king shad, broke at the hinge on first fish Quote

Not sure my wife would have stuck around long enough for the earrings! ;D That's quite a list you got there; but you didn't mention your Flowbee. (for cuttin' your own hair) b Don't knock the flowbee, saved my family a whole lot of money in haircuts over the years when i was a kid. My dad became a flowbee magician over the years. Storm baits and every scent i have ever bought. not because they don't work, but because I buy them and then get to lazy to keep adding the scent. Every year I try the new hot scent and every year it ends up sitting in the side of my tacklebox never seening the light of day Quote
JShrock07 Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Years and years ago I got sucked into buying the old helicopter lure set.... HAHA What a hunk of junk!!! I got screwed on that deal!!! > ;D ;D ;D ;D Quote

Super User Gatorbassman Posted July 25, 2008 Super User Posted July 25, 2008 A bulk 1lb spool of Trilene Photochromic. The only thing it's been good for is as backing. If you let it sit in the sun for one day it becomes very brittle. Quote

Super User Long Mike Posted July 26, 2008 Super User Posted July 26, 2008 There is only one part of my body that I would love to have turn brittle. I can stay in the sun all day. My skin looks like an alligator's, but that part stays as flexible as it has for years. :'( Quote

Eddie Munster Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Any combo plastics package will be filled with at least 80% garbage that will never be tried. I've bought 2 of these in my life (1 for me while a teenager 1 for my kids for panfish). I've been pretty lucky to ride someone's coattails on what to buy. I'm pretty cheap and do not come off money easy for expensive lures/equipment. I broke down and FINALLY bought a couple Cavitron buzzbaits today ONLY because they've been so highly recommended here. J_Zink Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I'm starting to think the rage tail lures are. I've fished 3 different lakes with these with only a couple short strikes to show for it. In the mean time the baits are getting torn up. Not a big deal if the things weren't costing $1 each. Quote

Thats why it is called fishing and not catching, and that is why most fisherman are always broke... d**n bait monkey. I can honestly say that rage tail lures work great for me. Have you checked to make sure you are using the correct hook?? Alot of time hook size will help yu catch your fish. Also check out strike kings website it shows how to rig them properly. Quote

Fine tuning the bait with hook selection can only happen if the fish are actually striking at the bait. That's what's been missing in my scenario. I've used both Gammie and Eagle Claw wide gaps but attempting to blame the hooks when I've had a total of 2 short strikes in about 6 trips using them isn't the answer. I'll probably go again this weekend to my weed lake, this time putting the rage tails up head to head with a couple buzzbaits and see the results. So far, the baits look really, really good going through the water but the fish seem less impressed. Quote
lknbassman Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Storm soft swim baits - useless but at $4/pk not the worst beating over all I suppose. White Senkos have done nothing for me but other colors are great so I can't blame the bait just that one color. I sure hope that new $80 3-16 swim bait lure doesn't make this list.....Ouch if it does. Those guys are certain it's worth the $80 but not this guy, uh uh, no thanks. Quote
