big c is very cool Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Hi I don't really like fly fishing at all but in the summer I always go to Maine and there are Atlantic Salmon. The guy who owns the bait store says the only way I can catch one is to use a fly fishing rod. Does any one have any other way to catch one maybe by using a jig, topwater, or crankbait. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I really wanna land one of those things this summer. Thanks, Corey Quote
Super User T-rig Posted January 28, 2007 Super User Posted January 28, 2007 The guy is full of crap! He probably wants you to buy a fly fishing outfit from him! Try spoons like the Little Cleo (I dont even know if they make those anymore) or Abu Garcia Toby or any other metal spoon. Silver seems to work best. You can also try bigger Mepps spinners, size 3 or 4. Hope that helps. Quote
56 crestliner Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Yea.. They still make the little cleos they are popular around here for trolling for eyes' Quote

Fish Man Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 i have never salmon fished but ive watch ALOT of tv shows an videos on the internet were they use in line spinners like mepps and blue fox in large sizes Quote
Garnet Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Most Atlantis Salmon rivers are fly fishing only. I was part of the group that got our MNR into re-establishing the Atlantic salmon in Lake Ontario. The truth about them is any flashy bait will just clean a river out. These fish are as stupid as stumps around cleo's or inline spinners. They are so stupid for flashy, tinsel flys are baned in most areas. They are a blast to catch. Garnet Quote
