bass109 Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Fishing for eel can be fun. my best eel caught. The way the fish moved in the water made it hard to bring out but it was fun. Quote
Tom Bass Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Where do you fish that you catch eel? I have never caught an eel. Your location isn't in your profile. Quote

Tom Bass Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Bass109, That is a pretty big eel. I was talking with my brother and he said that he's caught eels in PA. I caught a huge salamader once when I was a kid. It was about 2' long. My Dad called it a Water Dog and then he killed it because they harm nests and eat fish eggs. That was about 30 years ago though. I am not sure what I would do with an eel if I caught one. Are they edible? Tom Quote
bass109 Posted November 10, 2006 Author Posted November 10, 2006 I wouldnt eat one, the adult eels are kind of hard to pull out of the water. They use them as bait up in New York for Hudson fishing for stripers. My younger brother caught a leopard frog on a senko once, the frog ate the small part of the senko. Quote
RODBENDER Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 They are edible , pretty good if you eat it straight out of the pan .You know how liver is really good when it's hot then when it cools off taste awfull . That's the way eel is . Quote
Tom Bass Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Well, that settles that...I will not be trying the Eel... Quote
Yakfish Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I caught saltwater eel in the LI sound as a kid. Those suckers are notorious for swallowing your bait and putting up one heck of a fight then you have to beat the living hell out of them to get your hook back. The old timers swore that they made great soup but I didn't even want to look at them let alone eat 'em. Quote
JiggaMan512 Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 closest thing ive landed to an eel was, well.... absolutley nothing :-/ Quote
volpster31 Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 i hate catching those things.....ive caught quite a few river fishing & their almost impossible to get a hook out of..you end up getting slimed & then cutting your line Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted December 4, 2006 Super User Posted December 4, 2006 That thing is waaaaaay to similar to a snake for me... Quote
