Fishing for eel can be fun.  my best eel caught. The way the fish moved in the water made it hard to bring out but it was fun.

Bass109,

That is a pretty big eel. I was talking with my brother and he said that he's caught eels in PA. I caught a huge salamader once when I was a kid. It was about 2' long. My Dad called it a Water Dog and then he killed it because they harm nests and eat fish eggs. That was about 30 years ago though.

I am not sure what I would do with an eel if I caught one. Are they edible?

I wouldnt eat one, the adult eels are kind of hard to pull out of the water. They use them as bait up in New York for Hudson fishing for stripers.

My younger brother caught a leopard frog on a senko once, the frog ate the small part of the senko.

They are edible , pretty good if you eat it straight out of the pan .You know how liver is really good when it's hot then when it cools off taste awfull . That's the way eel is .

I caught saltwater eel in the LI sound as a kid. Those suckers are notorious for swallowing your bait and putting up one heck of a fight then you have to beat the living hell out of them to get your hook back. The old timers swore that they made great soup but I didn't even want to look at them let alone eat 'em.
