You know, it's funny.  When I joined the Army I never really thought of it as a sacrifice.  During the entire time the thought never really crossed my mind.  Sure I spent a ton of time away from my family, friends, and home.  It never really seemed to be that big of a deal.  Now as I get older and enjoy civilian life, I realize how big of a sacrifice it really is.  I've got nothing but the utmost respect for all of the service members, both prior and active.  Threads like this really make me think about the importance of some of the things I was a part of in the past, and appreciate everybody who thanks all of the service members.

Thanks to everybody currently serving, along with those who have.  Thanks to those people out there that truly thank those that have served.

I felt the same way I don't really think of it as a sacrafice. I do enjoy seeing posts like this and the thanks I get when I'm out in uniform going to or from the armory. Gives me a warm feeling if ya know what I mean. I enlisted 3 years ago cuz all my friends are in. I took flack from my family for going the infantry route when I could do some thing else safer instead I chose the front line dangerous mos. To me its just a job I signed on the line and started doing my part and plan on being a lifer. But on the same side I run into people who are the complete oppisite as you who give thanks and apreciation and actualy despise what we do id like to strangle these people lol.

It's the infantry, and the grunts who are the backbone of the service's. Be proud that your doing what you do. Much props to you.  8-)

Every one else supports us in the military thats there job. I love the infantry they let me shoot and blow stuff up ;D this weekend we have drill focusing on react to contact while mounted so were gonna rip around the farm land they let us use on some humvees and machine guns but with blanks.

Now, here is an idea where we all may be able to help.  How could several groups of us who are regionally close to a base find out how we could maybe organize a "Take a Vet Fishing" day???  Who would we contact, how could we get names of those who would be interested and would they be able to leave the base for a day of fishing???  I would think this would be something a lot of us would be willing to do, wouldn't it???  Mods, could we get a thread started at the top of each of the forums, similar to what you have for the road trip? 

I think it would be an awesome day for those of us who did not serve to give a day of fishing to those who are far from home, or maybe have never fished a day in thier lives.  Any feedback on this idea???

A couple of programs out there deserve attention.  My good friend Burnie Haney works hard every year to put on an event at Oneida Lake with the Take a Soldier Fishing program.  I'll be part of the shore crew this year.

There is an entire generation of guys from Vietnam who fought harder than we have and did not recieve their dues during that time. I've been in for twelve years and there is no other life I would rather have.  I appreciate it every time someone takes the time to say thanks and when I'm in civilian clothes return the favor to other troops.  Thanks for the appreciation BR family.  Suicidenemesis hit it on the head, there are many vets past and present that do not get the appreciation they deserve.  My hat's off to them.  They deserve it more than most.  In response to the recommendation about taking a troop fishing, how about a sticky with military members past/present with location and any other additional information that you feel necessary.  Members that wish to take a troop out could shoot them a pm and arrange a trip.  This could be a way to meet fellow anglers and make great friends, just a thought.

A sticky is a post/thread that is kept at the top of the first page somehow.  It doesn't fall into the land of lost threads like some others.  That's all I know, I'm not computer saavy either.  Have a great day.
