brushhoggin Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 we should have a system here where readers can thumb a comment up or down like on you tube. is that pointless? too much work? just curious. it'd be nice to have that option instead of people posting x2 or x3 or one word comments like "agreed" just a thought. 1 Quote
Uncle Leo Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Like this, I suppose it is personal preferance, Got to love America. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted February 23, 2011 Super User Posted February 23, 2011 Upvote. This could stop the people who post just to boost post count and make people post decent material. But it might start karma whoring... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 23, 2011 Super User Posted February 23, 2011 Tried on other forums, didn't work so well. Same goes for rating threads and karma. If you want to get reliable advice, you need to participate and post both questions and answers. Pretty soon it becomes clear what is real and what is not. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted February 23, 2011 Super User Posted February 23, 2011 I think many of us use the x2 and x3 now and then. It's one thing to use it and really mean it and it is quite another to use it for post count. I don't pay attention like the moderators do but I can't say I've really noticed anyone using this to boost post count recently. But then, I've learned to stay away from things that bother me for the most part on forums. Life is too short. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 23, 2011 Super User Posted February 23, 2011 I don't think a "me too" post unnaturally boosts post count. I don't care for it since it seems lazy, but for the person asking the question, the strength in numbers might help them decide what info is useful. 1 Quote
Super User grimlin Posted February 23, 2011 Super User Posted February 23, 2011 I do the "X2" all the time, but I'll add to the post as well...Post counts are not important. I just like to associate with fellow fishermen online. I don't really have anybody else to talk about fishing around home. :-/ Quote

Super User J Francho Posted February 23, 2011 Super User Posted February 23, 2011 Yep, a "good guy" posts a "x2" and you know its probably going to work. Quote
Shad_Master Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Am I totally out of the loop? What difference does it make what your post count is? Quote
rowyourboat Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 i have no idea. mine isn't very high but i don't think it restricts anything on here does it? Quote

Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 23, 2011 Super User Posted February 23, 2011 Am I totally out of the loop? What difference does it make what your post count is? You get promoted by your post count. You start as a one star general and work your way to a five star general. On the road trip you must salute those with more stars whenever your paths cross. 3 Quote

When the box opens click on ctrl and V, then post. Save yourself some key strokes. Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted February 24, 2011 Super User Posted February 24, 2011 Post counts are not important. To many that's very true but to some It seems Important. I know on a sports board I go to post count Is a source of pride for some and they also look at the post count to judge If others are worth readin. It's pathetic. I am durn glad post counts aren't visible here. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted February 24, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted February 24, 2011 It's for that very reason we took it down. Never in my wildest thoughts did I ever think people would fuss so much over post counts. That's just pathetic. So I removed them. Quote
jeremyt Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I don't get it either, I guess people feel that if they get their post count or stars up, that they are more important than the others. I like most could care less about that it's the value of the information. Quote

Good deal! After that thread some of us started posting welcome messages on a consistent basis. I feel that since Glenn provides this resource for free it would seem to be the least I can do. Again, this has nothing to do with post count for most of us who "volunteer" for the welcoming committee. If I was worried about my post count I wouldn't disappear from the forum for two or three months at a time like I do every year. Quote

I'm glad you mentioned that senile1, I was going to post a comment about the intro issue and decided not to b/c I post in that forum all the time and thought I would be ridiculed for it. I don't care about post count and I post in there b/c a lot of people took time and welcomed me when I first joined. At the time I thought it was a very nice gesture and feel that I should return the favor to someone else. Anyway, for what it's worth, that's just my 2 cents. Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 24, 2011 Super User Posted February 24, 2011 Ok, I have to ask, why is it we no-lifers ( been posting for a long time ) got silver stars and lower ranked members got gold stars, ain 't gold higher value than silver ? Quote
