GrundleLove Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 So as I posted earlier about getting my new '11 Ford Fusion, I was giving the task of getting rid of my old car. A 1996 Pontiac Grand Am. I hate this car. I wish nothing but the worst for it and if it was possible I hope it would come down with a disease and die a slow and painfull death. That being said I was going to junk it and get a few hundred bucks, but then a light bulb went off. Why not put this on craigslist...completely disclose its problems, and see if i can trade it for a motorcycle. Brilliant. So that's what I did. I got like 6 people emailing me. The best one so far is a 1983 Suzuki GR650. It needs a starter and that's it. Im excited. This is a good deal right? Thoughts. Quote
Stasher1 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 That depends on how difficult it is to change the starter on that old GR. On some bikes, like the Yamaha Virago, the engine has to be removed to replace the starter. Quote
Captain Obvious Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Just wondering why would someone trade a perfectly good bike for a beater car? I mean if all it needs is a starter and your old car sounds like it needs more than a little work ,why trade? Bike needs less work and gets better gas mileage. I'm not saying they don't have a good reason just wondering. Capt.O Quote
Bass XL Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 That has to be one of the most animated posts I have ever seen. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 16, 2011 Super User Posted March 16, 2011 You better check out that motorcycle before you consumate the deal. You may end up hating it more than that Pontiac, and it will be worth less as scrap. Quote
B-Dozer Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Must be like new, it's only 28 years old right? Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 16, 2011 Super User Posted March 16, 2011 Must be like new, it's only 28 years old right? LOL. I'm pushing 70. To me, 28 IS like new. Quote
ROCbass Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I hate this car. I wish nothing but the worst for it I'd be very cautious about the motorcycle deal, as others have stated. The part of you post I quoted got me to thinking though, this car sounds like a perfect demolition derby candidate. You can destroy it while having some fun in the process, then sell it for scrap.
