That's what they get for hogging the road and not scooting over.  He collected about 40 points with that drive-thru.

If I were judge I would sentence him to ride a bike at a slow pace while being plowed from behind with his vehicle at the speed of reported impact and the then do it forty more times.

Obviously what the guy in the car did is inexcusable, but it was only a matter of time before something like this happened at one of these critical mass rides. Bunch of smug cyclists hogging the entire road moving as slowly as possible just to prove a point that they have a right to be on the road too by inconveniencing and making drivers angry. I bet if me and a couple of my buddies took up every lane of traffic on a busy road going 5-10mph in our cars for no reason other than we wanted act like jerks, we'd be ticketed for impeding traffic so why do critical mass riders get away with it?

Cyclists have just as much right to be on the road as motorists do.  If you want us to stop riding on the road, tell your city council to start constructing decent bike paths.

The city I live in has the 2nd most bike paths in the state of Arkansas, yet you still can't access most parts of the town without getting on the roads.

I have no problem with cyclists being on roads, in fact once it warms up a bit here I'll start riding my bike to class instead of driving. The only issue I have is with critical mass events where cyclists purposely block traffic. I realize that many drivers are inconsiderate of cyclists on the roads, but one upping them and being even more inconsiderate than they are isn't the way to solve that problem.

I also disagree with critical mass. Really stupid idea. What if that car driver had his dying wife or child in the car and could not get through?

Bikers deserve everything they get, they feel like they can rule the roads and run over pedestrians. Its about time someone put them in there place.

Shall we mention the bicycle couriers in the big cities.  Personally, I've never seen them, but many of the things I've read aren't very complimentary.

A person on a bike is extremely vulnerable.  Many bikers seem to forget, or disregard this simple truth.  Many drivers don't give it a thought.

Common courtesy on both parties would go a long way.

What about pedestrians that do not walk facing traffic, or walk abreast rather than single file?

An idiot plowing through a mass of people is "putting someone in their place"?  Dude...  :-X

Cyclists "rule the road" as much as drivers do.  We must follow the same laws as motorists.  And we are often forced to the sidewalks (you said something about us "running over pedestrians") for two reasons:

1. Some drivers are impatient and ignorant and refuse to drive safely around cyclists. Thus we are forced to the side for safety reasons.

2.  THERE ARE NO BIKE PATHS.

Cycling is fun, healthy, eco-friendly, and relaxing.  Now, I drive my big gas guzzling truck as much as the next guy, but riding is a needed change of pace from time to time.
