Super User slonezp Posted March 8, 2011 Super User Posted March 8, 2011 If you get this DO NOT CLICK ON IT. It looks legit. My Norton blocked it. I spoke with paypal customer service and they verified it's bogus. It doesn't show up here but it had the paypal logo on the header. The customer service rep said an email from them would address you by your first and last name not Dear Member. tyrius. Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 No matter how legit it looks never, EVER click on a link from a "company". They do not and will not ever operate like that. If you think your account has an issue then go to www.paypal.com and log in from there. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 8, 2011 Author Super User Posted March 8, 2011 I use paypal so little, but just used it a couple weeks ago. That along with the header and that it came from service@paypal .com was why I attempted to open it. All's well. Maybe this post will help out other internet idiots like me, and prevent someone else from getting phished. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 9, 2011 Super User Posted March 9, 2011 Some of these phishing emails are done very well, generally no company will ask you do things likes this. One thing to look at, if you hover your mouse pointer over the link the actual url it will go to will show in a pop-up. If it doesn't make sense don't click on it. Everything else in the email can be spoofed, the actual url cannot. Quote
Stasher1 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 That one has been circulating for years. I guess if they're still using it, people are still falling for it. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted March 9, 2011 Super User Posted March 9, 2011 I've gotten that email several times but always in the email not associated with my paypal account Quote
