Super User Bassn Blvd Posted March 4, 2011 Super User Posted March 4, 2011 STOP using so much #*#*#*# glue to seal the ***##** cereal bag closed and start using a Ziploc/resealable bag? I just ripped another #^$%@** cereal bag all to *##**# shreds trying to open it and cereal went everywhere. > Ok, I feel better now. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted March 4, 2011 Super User Posted March 4, 2011 Simple cure is to marry a woman with a Tupperware collection! They make a container that works great for cereal, even has a small pop-top to pour out of. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 4, 2011 Super User Posted March 4, 2011 We use containers here in Florida for many types of food like cereal, lots of insects here. Nothing keeps food better than old fashioned wax paper which no food companies uses anymore. I hate bread in plastic bags, destroys the crust, but have found only 1 bakery that uses wax paper or a waxed bag. Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 4, 2011 Super User Posted March 4, 2011 Bassin, you wouldn't happen to have a video of you opening that package that you could post? Would be funny!!!! And yes, I have defaulted and now use a scissors to cut the tops of the bags after the same thing happened to me one time. I felt your pain. ;D ;D ;D Quote
Quillback Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I also feel your pain, why the heck they superglue (or whatever it is they use) those cereal bagtops like they do is beyond me. I guess I can start using scissors, kinda whimpy IMO, using scissors that is, a man should be able to rip stuff open and not have to worry about the contents dispersing all over the place, especially first thing in the AM. WanderLust Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Costs money to change their baggin setup. So they use cheaper bag material and glue but the same equipment. The results....... *BOOM* cereal everywhere. I use a tupperware setup (lol from my last marriage). Easier so kids don't make a mess and I can see how much we have left before going back to Costco. That's my main problem with them. By the time my 11 and 8 yr olds get done opening the bag, you'd think a warthog had been chewing on it for a couple days. : Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 4, 2011 Super User Posted March 4, 2011 What, did they take your scissors away from you because you got caught running with them? Quote
northern basser Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Malt o meal = ziplock top Exactly. The plant is about 25 miles north of me in Northfield, MN. Quote

Siebert Outdoors Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 LOL, I did this just the other day trying to take the strip above the ziplock off. Big hole in the bag now. Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 5, 2011 Super User Posted March 5, 2011 Tear here ------> yeah, right ! > >, you tear where you supposed to tear and the tear splits the friggin ' bag wide open from the top to the bottom if it 's vertical or from right to left in diagonal when it 's horizontal. Cut here ( resealable bags ) ----> yeah, right ! > > you try to make a nifty cut with scissors and you cut the friggin resealable part, cuz the danged dotted line is printed right on top of it. Lift and Pull ( cans ) ----> yeah, right ! > >, you try to lift the danged tag, while in the process of lifting the danged tag you break yor fingernail and then you can 't pull the friggin 'tab, when you can then you break the danged tag and you end up with it around your fisnger like if it were a ring while the can remains unopened. Childproof cap -----> yeah, right ! > > a child can open it in like 9 nanoseconds, you ? .... hope that that childproof cap ain 't on the bottle of that medication you badly need when you are having a heart attack. Super User Micro Posted March 5, 2011 Super User Posted March 5, 2011 They aren't glued shut. They are sealed using an ultrasonic welding technique. I'd tell you more but that's as much as I heard when I was flipping past the "How's it Made" show on Discovery Channel. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 5, 2011 Super User Posted March 5, 2011 Cereal 1 Bass Resource members0 Epic fail ;D ;D ;D Quote
Luke at Gouldsboro Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 If your cereal bag tears to shreds,I'd hate to see you open a condom !!!! hahaha Quote

Super User Raul Posted March 5, 2011 Super User Posted March 5, 2011 If your cereal bag tears to shreds,I'd hate to see you open a condom !!!! hahaha Problem with condoms is the there are in the Tear Here class with a twist, the inside of the package is lined with a particularily elastic kind of plastic, tear here, you pull, the outside tears but the plastic liner doesn 't, it begins to elongate and as it elongates it becomes thiner and thiner then it wraps around the condon. Super User .dsaavedra. Posted March 5, 2011 Super User Posted March 5, 2011 i never once thought about companies putting cereal in zipper bags.... thats brilliant. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 6, 2011 Super User Posted March 6, 2011 ...Or putting cereal in condoms 8-) Quote
endless Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Man I just want to know what kind of cereal was it? I'm back on my lucky charms but man I haven't had smacks in a good while. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted March 6, 2011 Author Super User Posted March 6, 2011 LMAO, It's comforting to know I'm not the only handicapped cereal bag opener ;D. My latest "battle with the bag" was Cheerios but Raisin brand has to be the worst. I think there is some selfish, inconsiderate, mean jerk who has no friends that gets his rocks off by purposely over gluing the bags shut just to tick the cereal eating community off. I mean really, they make squeezable ketchup bottles, PB&J in the same jar, resealable bags of frozen chicken breasts, resealable bags of potato chips, nuts and other snacks but they can"t make a user friendly cereal bag? Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted March 6, 2011 Super User Posted March 6, 2011 i've never had a problem opening cereal bags. it'd still be nice for them to be resealable for freshness though Quote
Hamby Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 I never have problems opening them neatly. Only the dumb people in the household seem to have problems. Then i have to deal with a bag that doesn't want to pour one second, then dumps half the bag the next. Then i'm standing there with a gigantic bowl of cereal, and an oddly shaped opening that i can't pour any back into. :-/ The dog seems to enjoy these types of mornings. Quote

Probably a mom that was sick and tired of the kids tearing apart the bags to get to the toy inside. Quote
