Chance_Taker4 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I have a budd that would like to sign up here and join in the conversations here. The only problem is that when he tries to he can't because he has the wrong type of email address. He has, like me a gmail and aol account. But unlike him I am in school andI was able to use my school address to sign up. Can I get an example of some email accounts that he can use to sign up here since the two accounts he has does not work. Also I am graduating this spring and would also like to know how to delete my account because they are deleteing my email account and will not be able to log in. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 1, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 1, 2011 Please see the help section to answer his questions. You can change your e-mail account on your profile, so long as it's not a free email account such as Yahoo or Gmail. So you won't need to "delete" your profile. Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 what are examples of a "non free" email account Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 1, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 1, 2011 I just gave it to you. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted March 1, 2011 Super User Posted March 1, 2011 So you can't sign up with "free" accounts anymore? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 2, 2011 Super User Posted March 2, 2011 No. We have too many issues with "free" accounts. -Kent Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted March 2, 2011 Super User Posted March 2, 2011 So if I have an existing "free" email, (Hotmail), do I have to change it to a non-free email? Because I don't have one. :-/ Quote

Super User Hookemdown. Posted March 2, 2011 Super User Posted March 2, 2011 I'll stop using the internet before I'll pay for e-mail. Which is the only choice for people who aren't supplied a "legit" email through universities, businesses, etc... Man, I hate spam. It is the scum of the earth. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 2, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 2, 2011 It only applies to NEW signups. You're good if you're already here. Quote

tyrius. Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Don't know if Glenn will like it or not, but get one of your high school friend's email address and have the guy sign up with that one. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted March 3, 2011 Super User Posted March 3, 2011 Who pays for email accounts anyway? Edit: I meant this as in private individuals. Quote

Super User BASSclary Posted March 3, 2011 Super User Posted March 3, 2011 I'm not sure I think this new thing is a good idea though. How many people would like to contribute to the forums, but can't because they don't pay for e-mail? I don't know anyone who pays for e-mail. Quote
Hamby Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I had a hard time signing up as well. Gave up and a few months later i was reading here and realized i may be able to use my phone's email. I have verizon, so my phone's email is 1xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com. Anything sent to that email will go to my phone as a text message. I'm pretty sure all carriers have something like this. If his phone is unable to go to internet links sent in texts, then he may just have to type in the link to his address bar on the computer. I tried to change my email to my gmail account after i signed up, but the forum deleted my account. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted March 3, 2011 Super User Posted March 3, 2011 How are you all accessing the internet? If you have an internet service provider (and if you have the internet at home, you almost certainly have an ISP) then you should be able to setup an email account with them... Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 3, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 3, 2011 Winner winner, chicken dinner! Quote

OUTLOOK! > Gmail is way better than the one that came with my ISP... Quote
Super User Dan: Posted March 4, 2011 Super User Posted March 4, 2011 why not just set up an account with your ISP and then have it forward mail to your gmail address? Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 4, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 4, 2011 Most ISP's have webmail options too. Also, you don't have to use Outlook. You could use a free email client such as Pegasus instead. Lot's of options for those willing to look around. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted March 4, 2011 Super User Posted March 4, 2011 why not just set up an account with your ISP and then have it forward mail to your gmail address? It easier to keep up with one email address. I used same email address for everything. All of my university email goes to my gmail. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted March 4, 2011 Super User Posted March 4, 2011 yeah i use my ISP webmail as my main email address. then i have a school email address setup with gmail and a hotmail email address for windows live. Quote

It easier to keep up with one email address. I used same email address for everything. All of my university email goes to my gmail. I'm failing to see why this is relevant. If someone wants to register, just create an email account with your ISP and use that. Continue to use your Gmail for email if you want, the ISP email account is just used to register. If someone is concerned about checking their ISP account for BR-related emails they can have it forwarded to another account like Gmail. As a side note, Gmail is way better than any webmail setups offered from any ISPs that I am aware of so I don't blame anyone for wanting to use that. One decent alternative to Outlook is "Thunderbird" from Mozilla Quote
