Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted February 14, 2011 Super User Posted February 14, 2011 Still hurts like hell, really hasn't felt better. I have started to notice more pain like I might have cracked my heel also. My mom is going to try and get me to a doc tomorrow, but only one place takes our insurance, so we'll have to see if they have any openings tomorrow. As for walking, I try to walk normal on it, mainly because I'm embarrassed to be limping. But I really can't walk normally on it. I get the comments though about it being hard to walk regularly after walking funny for so long. Just rub some dirt on it. ;D Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted February 14, 2011 Author Super User Posted February 14, 2011 Just got back from the ole' doc, and after x-rays and ultrasounds, I have a medium sized stress fracture on my heel, a partially torn ligament, and a inflammed ligament. 3 problems in one visit. So now I have to wear a boot for 4-6 weeks, and follow up in 3 weeks. No lax for me this year, but I can still manage and help everybody out, which is not nearly as good as playing, but it'll still be kinda fun. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted February 14, 2011 Author Super User Posted February 14, 2011 Make sure you tell the trained medical staff what your self diagnosis is (cracked heel, sprain, torn ligaments). They should really appreciate it. I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not. Quote

The day I was told my knee is severely damaged and required surgery and no baseball for rest of year, I felt like it was the end of the world. I got hurt when I was 12, and didn't play a game again until freshmen year of high school. Quote

Buddy, that's some awesome sarcasm right there... docs love it when you give them a detailed self-diagnosis like that. ;D Bummer on your trifecta you listed. Probably not going to believe since you're in so much pain right now, but your diagnoses actually aren't all that bad. That stress Fx will heal in the Cam walker boot within a few weeks and a partially torn/inflamed ligament is just another way to say you have a sprain. 4-6 weeks and you should be good as new. Just don't try to be a tough guy and get rid of the boot too soon (follow your doc's orders). Quote

ROCbass Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Its a bummer that you'll have to miss LAX, but don't try to be a hero and overdo it. 4-6 weeks isn't that bad. When I did my ankle, the prognosis was more like 4-6 months. (I broke my fibula and tore several ligaments and had to have 2 screws put in my ankle). It was almost 2 months before the doc would let me bear any weight on that leg at all, and I was still in the boot for a few months after that. Now a couple years later I still have the occasional ache, but i know it could be much worse if I hadn't followed the doc's advice. In the grand scheme of things, 4-6 weeks is nothing and you're gonna want your joints to work properly for the rest of your life. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 how short of a season is it??? 4-6 weeks seems like you should have more than half a season left if you are rehabbing... Quote

And you probably did some of that damage by staying on it for days before going. The last time I waited to go to a doctors it ended up costing me 5 months in bed, hundreds of stitches, and the name Spidertaint. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted February 17, 2011 Super User Posted February 17, 2011 Spidertaint! Spidertaint! Does whatever a spidertaint does! can he swing from a web? No he can't He's a taint! Lookout! Here comes the spidertaint!! Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted February 25, 2011 Author Super User Posted February 25, 2011 Update for anyone who wants to know: Today lax tryouts ended and I made the team, but didn't officially make the team. I still go to practice, and ride the bus with team to and from games, but i'm not on the team so I don't take up a roster spot while i'm useless. Later in the season though I might be able to play in some games! Woo-Hoo! Only 3&1/2 - 5&1/2 more weeks!... I think... Quote

flippin and pitchin Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 What ever you do LET IT HEAL properly and the rehab it. If you don't, you risk long term issues. I was a smart alec kid and bucked my way though a severe ankle sprain when I was seventeen. Twenty eight more sprains later, I realized how stupid I was. My stupidity doesn't end there though. I have many more years of stupid choices behind me. ;) Quote
