Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 11, 2011 Author Super User Posted February 11, 2011 just checked out the wild bunch, pale rider, and once upon a time in the west from the library. Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 just checked out the wild bunch, pale rider, and once upon a time in the west from the library. If you have seen Henry Fonda in other movies, how did you think about his performance in one upon a time in the west? Big difference from usually being cast as a soft spoken protagonist in other movies. Quote

I recommend watching the Ox-Bow Incident first then watching Once Upon a Time in the West. Ox-Bow is a younger Henry Fonda with his trademark style and Once Upon a Time in the West is a completely different Fonda. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted February 11, 2011 Super User Posted February 11, 2011 I know I'm gonna get ripped for this, but 'Tombstone' doesn't cut it for me. It strikes me as cartoonish. The hair and clothes are too neat and clean. I know people took baths back then, but my vision of the old West is dirtier and grittier. Everyone is too good looking. If you ever saw old prints of western life, there were some ugly sob's back then. The men were no treat either... Ok, got my asbestos suit on. Let 'er rip.... Quote

Not one of my favorites, but Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday makes the movie worth watching in my opinion. The fancy cup work at the poker table in response to Johnny Ringo's gun play is very cool. Quote

BassThumb Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 All of my favorite Westerns have been mentioned on here, except for a few, an Aussie "Western" called The Proposition, Rio Bravo, and The Assassination Of Jesse James. For fans of Ray Winstone and Guy Pearce, The Proposition is a must see. It is a creepy, violent, and well written and acted film. These three films, along with Sergio Leone's spaghetti western trilogy, 3:10 To Yuma, and Unforgiven are my favorite Westerns. The Proposition trailer: The Assassination of Jesse James trailer: (one of the best film scores ever, featured in the trailer) Quote
