fish-fighting-illini Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Anyone ever had it? Man it sucks depending on the severity that you had. I had my 1st ever bout approx 4 weeks ago and that hurt. I spent 5 or 6hrs in the E/R & took antibiotics via IV then was on them @ home for a week. I was back to work in one day & not that big of a deal. The antibiotics didn't totally take care of it and 2 weeks later it came back in a more seious form. Man that pain was a whole new ballgame. Eight days in the hospital with IV antibiotics and a week of them from home. They ran out today so fingers crossed. I have to get healthy enough in the next 5 weeks so they can operate. In short if you ever hear of someone having this trust me they could be in some serious pain! FFI - AKA Matt Crum Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 15, 2011 Super User Posted February 15, 2011 I feel for ya bud. Been there. Mine was a little different. I had the perforated diverticulitis - out of no where. Had a blow out and was poisoning myself for several hours. I was in a world of hurt, almost bought the farm. Emergency surgery then the better part of a month in the hospital followed by another surgery 4 months later. I lost a ton of weight. I looked like I was 80 but I was only 40. After it's all said and done I'm OK. Not good as new but I'm happy to be here and happy to do whatever it takes to keep it that way. Good luck with your procedures and continued good health to you. 1inStripes Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I hope I never have it. I like eating corn too well. Quote

A-Jay I hear ya. I had a blowout as well but they said that it was very small, opened but didn't actually leak anything other than air. If the size of the blowout is proportional to the pain I couldn't imagine a large one. holy be jeepers that hurt!!! That whole what you can & cannot eat is kind of confusing. My doc says avoid anything with seeds. Online ( Mayo clinic ) says that is old school and has not been proven. It says that in some cases particularly with men that seeds can be helpful. I don't want that pain so I will avoid the seeds to be safe. Man some of the things I love and that are some of my healthiest are history. Goodbye strawberries, nuts, pumpkin seeds & blueberries. You can remove the seeds from cucumbers & tomatoes ( oh boy that sounds like fun. The "almost bought the farm" statement sums it up, thanks for the reminder. Quote
1inStripes Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I had a friend who was changing jobs back in the summer and leaving our employment. Not a week later while waiting on that job to start she ended up in the hospital with a major case of diverticulitis, and then had a complication after surgery. It was dang near the death of her. endless Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 It Almost killed my mother. She was rushed by ambulance and had emergency surgery. They said if was driven by me or someone else it would have killed her. She was put on the colostomy bag for close to a year. They was able to reverse it and she no longer on it. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 I'm doing my best to take it easy. Even though painful I thought that it was fairly routine. Geez you guys are a reminder to not take it too lightly. If the pain comes back before the surgery I'll make sure not to mess around and get to the doc or the hospital ASAP. No wonder my wife is paranoid at my every minor wince. Thanks for the input. Quote
