There's a difference between an act and an artist.

The Black Eyed Peas are an act.

I've heard better renditions of Sweet Child o' Mine at karaoke night.

Jim Cornelison should sing the Star Spangled Banner at every game possible. Not to sound sexist but the song is so much more affective when it's sung in a powerful masculine voice.

Black Eyed peas were horrible. Strictly a studio "group" AKA Backstreet Boys or that other boy band I forget. Slash saved them for a couple minutes, but otherwise, stick to the studio or dub in the sound like Milli Vanilli. P.U.

Sad state of the music industry today when this is one of the hottest groups out there. Do they play any instruments? Worst halftime I have seen.

Well, I had to work yesterday, which is totally fine, as I totally hate football, and every other ballsport for that matter.

But where I have to say you guys are crazy, is that yesterday would have probably been a great day to go fishing > in spite of the fact it was a Sunday, and weekends typically SUCK for fishing, because of the crowds.

However, yesterday during my work (I drive for a living) I couldn't believe how light the traffic was ! It actually made my job easy.

And I was thinking, I bet the water is pretty empty today too, because a whole bunch of guys are sitting in their house, staring at their TV's, watching a bunch of other guys in tights, throwing, and kicking some stupid little ball around !

How in the heck does that make any sense !?!?

If I were into football, or any ball sport for that matter, I'd have devoted my whole lifes attention to it, and I guarantee you, I'd be out there actually playing it, and you'd be watching me ! :) LOL

By your comments, you have obviously never played any competitive sports. Once it's in your blood, you can't get it out- playing or watching. I've played or coached sports my whole life. You learn teamwork, cooperation, leadership, and the pride of a job well done and earned. I recently played in a slowpitch baseball tournament at my son's college for a fundraiser. Although I ran out of breath trying to stretch a single into a double, I would not have traded the experience for anything. I was hurting and exhausted after 3 games but I felt like a kid again. We took the coaches team- all recent graduates, into a sudden death playoff and lost 2-1 in the championship game.

Our team was my son and his roommate, both freshman, and a few of the varsity players from his high school team, and myself and 1 other dad. I was proud that we took out 2 of the favorites and took the winner to a playoff. Sad you will never get to feel any of those type of feelings, like winning tournaments, regionals, conference titles, and your son being named all-conference.

I guess there's always ballet- They wear tights, don't they? ;D

CWB has it right. The people who dont like or follow sports probably never played any sports. The thrill of competition usually runs deep in those that have, whether they are playing or watching, and yes, it's sad that they will never know that feeling.

At least it wasn't Ke$ha.

I liked the Black Eyed Peas halftime more than Springsteen two years ago or The Who last year - and Classic Rock is usually my first choice on the tuner.  Black Eyed Peas just happen to be a group that I really like.

You can bash popular music all you like, but at the end of the day, it's popular for a reason.  A lot of people like it.  The performers may not be playing instruments, they might be using Autotune to correct for poor singing, but their shows bring in money.

There needs to be a mix of half time performers from year to year to draw different audiences.  50 year old white guys aren't the only ones that watch football.

I resemble that remark!   :o

How 'bout someone new and on top of their game?

I'm thinking Katy Perry would have been perfect.

You don't even have to like her music, but she's

nice to look at and her hits are up-beat, fast paced

and just plain fun...Even for country fans and old farts!

::)

How much money would they bring in on vocal talent alone? I bet this 40 year old white guy can sing with autotune.  If I am hired to do a job and I have the ability to make the job look like it was done correctly even though it wasn't should that suffice?

JoePhish, thank you . As a life long musician I was trying to figure out how to classify the Peas. You hit the nail on the head....an act! Priceless!!

My apoligies for my ball sports bashing. I'd probably be best just to avoid ball sports threads altogether.

My only excuse is that it's just human nature to look at things from ones own perspective. If everybody here had had the experiences with sports that I did, when growing up, you guys would all feel exactly the same as I do.

Granted, if everybody here had had the experiences that I did, this would be one rediculously whacked out forum ;)  LOL

I think they should just end the halftime musical entertainment, instead have some kind of sports competition, like how the used to do Punt, Pass and Kick (remember that?), or draw random fans and have them try 40 yard field goals, if they make it they get $100,000.  I'm sure we could all come up with a list of suggestions, but please no more geriatric or talentless music acts.

As far as the National Anthem, bring in a choir to do it, if one bonehead in the choir blows it no one will notice.  This is our National Anthem for crying out loud, don't entrust it to some airhead.

Arguably the worst halftime show in the history of the SuperBowl. You'd think having it in Dallas would mean a line up of country stars.

Nope!

x2 and husband agrees!!

I honestly thought it was some kind of spoof Pepsi commercial or something and the "Real" halftime show would begin any minute, but SADLY that was it......what a ridiculous display. I could have gotten them a decent band for a lot less money I'm sure. LOL

No Problems. And it is human nature to view things from one's own perspective. All those different perspectives makes this forum a great place for sharing ideas, and learning from others. It's all good.  ;D ;D
