Where I work we have alot of scrap metal, copper, and aluminum.  The company however only scraps the metal.  So we collect the scrap aluminum and copper from the wires after the electrical is completed.  Then once a year we take it and turn it in.  Split the profits four ways.  It isn't a ton of money or anything, but enough for a few lucky crafts or something.

I scrap from time to time. I just drive threw neighborhoods on their garbage night and usually fill my truck up. Aluminum gas grills, washers, water heaters, electrical, plumbing pipes/fixtures, anything and everything. Sometimes you even find bonuses like working lawn mowers and bicycles.

When I was unemployed I did it for a year, 3-4 days a week and would make $200+ profit a week after expenses like gas, food, etc.
